Abstract: A method includes accessing, by a server computer, a plurality of electronic mail messages. The method also includes identifying, by the server computer, at least one of the electronic mail messages as a promoted electronic mail message. The method further includes outputting, for display at a client computing device, an electronic mail interface wherein the promoted electronic mail message is represented in a first position of a display order and a remainder of the electronic mail messages are represented subsequent to the promoted electronic mail message in the display order.

Abstract: Determining interest in promotional content to be displayed at a mobile communication device is described. The promotional content, including a first portion that is visible and a second portion that is hidden in a first state, may be received. The first and second portions are each selectable only when visible. A promotional display that includes the promotional content in the first state is generated. Upon receipt of a first input from the user in relation to the first portion, the promotional content may be transitioned from the first state to a second state such the first portion becomes hidden and the second portion becomes visible. Upon failing to receive a second input from the user in relation to the second portion, the promotional content may be transitioned from the second state to the first state. Upon receipt of the second input, an interest in the promotional content may be indicated.

A cluster graphic is displayed for the message cluster. The cluster graphic is characterized by (a) a first state in which messages in the message cluster are individually depicted and (b) a second state, which replaces the first state upon user input and collectively represents a plurality of messages in the message cluster. Each message in the message cluster is either (i) addressed at least to a first recipient or (ii) originates from the first recipient.

The method also includes, before the intended recipient reviews the incoming electronic message, reducing accuracy of user activity tracking by the content provider, by: requesting on a modeled temporal basis, a download of a first media content item in the plurality of media content items. In some implementations, the first media content item is invisible to the intended recipient.

Abstract: Systems and methods for categorizing objects in accordance with one or more user categorization actions are disclosed. In some embodiments, the occurrence of one or more categorization actions is detected for a first object in a list of objects in a messaging application. Categorization actions include starring the object, dragging and dropping an object from one cluster to another, adding a new cluster label, and providing filtering rules for an object. Then a set of properties for the first object is updated in accordance with the one or more categorization actions. The updated set of properties for the first object is compared to one or more categorization rules. For instance, an exemplary categorization rule is that a starred message is to be displayed in a primary cluster. Then information for displaying the first object in the list of objects in accordance with the one or more categorization rules is prepared.

Abstract: Configurations of the subject technology integrate with an online social networking service in order to manage membership of contacts within one or more social circles provided by the online social networking service. In one example, a button or other similar graphical element is provided to provide this functionality in a widget displayed in a user's e-mail application. The widget in one example is displayed in a conversation thread view of a conversation including one or more different e-mails from one or more participants. For a selected participant of the conversation thread, the aforementioned button is initially rendered to provide an indication of the participant's inclusion in one or more of the user's social circles. Selecting or hovering over the aforementioned button further allows the user to add the conversation participant to the user's social circles.
