  • Patent number: 12368685
Abstract: Devices and methods to correct for a mismatch in network port capabilities of a network component and the desired active network cable or pluggable transceiver capabilities, whether that mismatch relates to the power envelope, the thermal envelope, the bandwidth, or the signal constellation. For example, a pluggable patch panel is provided that may take the form of a modular rack unit component that can be connected between the desired active cable connectors or optical transceivers and the overmatched network ports of an existing router or other network component to meet the requirements for the desired connectors/transceivers while ensuring full utilization of the existing component's capabilities. In at least some cases, the pluggable patch panel minimizes cost and complexity by connecting associated ports with direct-connect traces that comply with the relevant chip-to-module attachment unit interface (AUI C2M) loss specifications of the IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet) Standard.
