  • Publication number: 20050008800
Abstract: A packaging laminate for a retortable packaging container, the packaging laminate (30) including a paper or paperboard layer (31), outer, liquid-tight coatings (32; 33) and an aluminium foil (34) serving as gas barrier between the paper or paperboard layer (31) and one of the two outer liquid-tight coatings (32). • Publication number: 20040202808
Abstract: An extruded/blow moulded bottle, together with a process for producing the bottle. The bottle has a wall structure (10) comprising a layer (11) of foamed plastic material which is surrounded by outer, solid layers (12 and 13) of plastic of the same type as the plastic in the foamed layer (11). The material in the foamed layer (11) includes a rigid polymer component and a ductile polymer component in a mixing ratio of from 1:3 to 3:1, and in addition the foamed layer (11) constitutes at least 50% of the total weight of the bottle. The bottle is produced by a combined extrusion/blow moulding process in which granulate starting material including the two polymer components and a chemical CO2-generating blowing agent is melted and, under excess pressure, is forced through an annular nozzle during simultaneous expansion of the formed CO2 blisters. The formed, foamed hose is accommodated in a mould cavity and inflated with the aid of air at high pressure to the desired bottle configuration.

  • Publication number: 20040023045
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a packaging laminate for a retortable packaging container comprising a core layer (11), outer, liquid-tight coatings (12 and 13) and a gas barrier (14) disposed between the one coating (12) and the core layer (11). Between the gas barrier (14) and the core layer (11), there is a layer (16) of a lamination or sealing agent of such a nature that the lamination or sealing agent has a melting point which is higher than the maximum temperature to which the retortable packaging container is to be subjected during a normal heat treatment in a retort. The lamination or sealing agent in the layer (16) may, for example, be a polypropylene with a melting point of above 130° C.

  • Patent number: 5620550
Abstract: A packaging material for producing packages includes a foundation layer that is provided with a through hole. A thermoplastic strip covers the through hole and an outer layer completely covers the thermoplastic strip and foundation layer. Various other layers can also be laminated to the foundation layer. When the thermoplastic strip is torn off, the various other layers accompany the thermoplastic strip, thereby exposing the through hole.

  • Patent number: 5489472
Abstract: Packaging material with good gas barrier properties comprising a skeletal layer and a gas barrier layer of a material with low elasticity, e.g. Al foil, which is placed against one side of the skeletal layer and which is bound to the skeletal layer with the aid of an intermediate layer of binding agent. The layer of binding agent consists of a compressible material, preferably an expanded or foamed polyolefin, which is arranged to compress with the aim of reducing the tensile strains acting on the Al foil when the material is shaped by folding during manufacture of the packaging.

  • Patent number: 5330845
Abstract: Packaging material with good gas barrier properties comprising a first and a second layer of a fibrous material, e.g. paper or cardboard, and a layer of a water based polymer, e.g. polyvinyl alcohol, placed between and in direct contact with the layers of fibrous material and functioning both as a gas barrier and as a binding agent in the packaging material. The packaging material is produced through bringing together and binding together with each other a first and a second strip or sheet of a fibrous material by means of a layer of a water based polymer, e.g polyvinyl alcohol, applied between and in direct contact with the strips or sheets. The surplus water in the thus applied polymer layer is absorbed by the fibrous material in one and/or the other strip or sheet to form the intermediate layer functioning as gas barrier and binding agent.

  • Patent number: 4989736
Abstract: Packing containers and packing container blanks of the type used for the packaging of, e.g., milk and juice, often are of the so-called gable-top type, in which the top closure also serves as an opening arrangment with a pouring spout which can be folded outwardly. The parts of the packing container or the blank forming the pouring spout may be partially coated with a seal-preventing substance to make it possible for the pouring spout to be detached and opened outwardly in spite of the heat-sealing of the top. The seal-preventing coating in accordance with the invention is covered by a film which extends along the upper edge region of the packing container to provide a better defined sealing strength, a tighter top seal, and protection to the coating both before and after the conversion of the packing container blank to packing containers.

  • Patent number: 4775096
Abstract: A packing container (2) includes a container body consisting of side walls (3,4), an arbitrary bottom closure (5), and a top closed by a bellow-type folded and heat sealed closure so as to form a top closure of the gable-top type which can be unfolded to expose an emptying opening (25) in the form of a pouring spout. To facilitate this re-unfolding, certain portions of the surfaces which are heat-sealed to one another are coated within the area of the unfoldable part of the top closure with a seal-weakening composition which is based on an aqueous dispersion of a thermoplastics material, preferably polythene, which is modified by a carboxymethyl cellulose, preferably sodium carboxymethyl cellulose.

  • Patent number: 4657614
Abstract: The invention relates to a laminated material which comprises a carrier layer of paper or cardboard and an outside layer of extruded polythene applied to one side of the carrier layer. To the other side of the carrier layer is applied a first binder layer of polythene and a layer of aluminum foil placed against the binder layer. A second binder layer of EAA is provided for the bonding together of the aluminum foil with an inner polythene layer which has been produced by blowing and which has a substantially higher modulus of elasticity and strength than the slot-extruded polythene layer. The invention also relates to a method for the manufacture of the laminate by making use of the heat content of the first slot-extruded binder layer of polythene for heating up the second binder layer of EAA to such a temperature that an effective bonding on the aluminum foil is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4590126
Abstract: A packing laminate for the manufacture of packing containers for edible oil must have an oil-resistant inner layer which is not affected by the oil, even during prolonged storage periods. A packing laminate meeting this condition has an extruded inner layer of two types of plastics mixed with one another, namely LLDPE and LDPE.

  • Patent number: 4534248
Abstract: In the rotary punching of a moving material web, the punched out waste material has to be removed so as not to interfere with the course of the punching. This can be done with a vacuum and internal ducts in the female roll, but this method cannot be used at high working speeds because of centrifugal force. Instead of this in accordance with the invention, the die hole of the female roll is provided with pistons that are maneuvered to and fro in rhythm with the rotation of the roll. As a result, the punching waste is retained for only a short while after the punching, and then is ejected and carried away via an external suction arrangement.
