Publication number: 20120083525Abstract: The present invention relates to a 2,5-bis-aryl-3,4-dimethyltetrahydrofuran lignan compound which activates nutmeg-derived AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), and to a composition including same as active ingredients for preventing and treating metabolic syndromes such as obesity. More particularly, the present invention relates to an AMPK-activating compound comprising one of the 2,5-bis-aryl-3,4-dimethyltetrahydrofuran lignan-based compounds produced by extracting Myristica fragrans with a solution of 30% or less of ethanol and separating and purifying the extracts using chromatography, as expressed in chemical formula 1 below, and to a composition comprising same as an active ingredient for preventing and treating metabolic syndrome caused by AMPK enzyme activation, such as obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol and cardiopulmonary diseases.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2009Publication date: April 5, 2012Inventors: Won Keun Oh, Phi Hung Nguyen, Thi Van Thu Le, Hu Won Kang, Eui Seok Shin, Jin Kyu Chio, Dae Bang Seo, Sang Jun Lee

Publication number: 20090259990Abstract: Mobile device software is managed by providing an interface between a plurality of software module handlers and a plurality of software modules. The interface is invoked responsive to a software module event such as the installation, removal, activation or modification of a software module. The interface identifies the software module and a corresponding attribute list associated with the software module event. The attribute list specifies one or more actions to be taken by at least one of the software module handlers that enable the identified software module to provide one or more functions when invoked. The attribute list is provided to each software module handler identified in the list and each action specified in the list is taken by the corresponding software module handler. This way, the interface reliably manages the different software modules without being aware of the particular functions provided by the modules or the specific actions taken by the handlers.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 10, 2008Publication date: October 15, 2009Inventors: Magnus Olsson, Bjorn Bjare, Annika Brobach, Chi Thu Le, Louis Verhaard

Patent number: 7188147Abstract: The present invention provides a network enabled multi-user configurable optical storage server. The device is easy to install and does not require client or server software. The server can be configured across a network through a series of HTML based web pages, or graphical user interfaces (GUI) provided by the server. The server can be accessed across a network by one or more users, terminals, or other network attached devices for substantially concurrent read/write access to one or more optical storage media. The server supports a comprehensive set of networking protocols and operating systems simultaneously. The server may support from one to hundreds of CD/DVD-ROMS. In an embodiment of the invention the server includes two stages of writing prior to committing to a write to the physical medium. This speeds both read and write access to the disk, allows concurrent user access to the disk, and greatly simplifies the mapping and file structures on the disk.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2000Date of Patent: March 6, 2007Assignee: Axis ABInventors: Pontus Soderstrom, Per Sten, Thu Le Chi

Patent number: 5358510Abstract: A method of tissue compression is disclosed herein where the device to cause such compression is composed of a fastener bar and receiver. The device has the capability to self-adjust to tissues of varying thicknesses to cause hemostasis. This tissue gap variability allows for compression of regions of tissue where thick and thin tissue are both present. This variability also enables the same device to be used on a wide variety of tissues of different thicknesses. The tissue fastener bar of this invention contains a series of cut-out portions which distribute the compressive forces along the device in an alternating, staggered manner. The receiver is of a generally U-shaped configuration with the fastener bar being contained at least partially within the U-shape. Compression occurs between the side walls of the receiver and the fastener bar and variability in gap is accomplished by flexure of the side walls of the receiver.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1993Date of Patent: October 25, 1994Assignee: Ethicon, Inc.Inventors: Brian H. Luscombe, Izi Bruker, Leslie Hamilton, Thu A. Le
