  • Patent number: 5274021
Abstract: A corrosion resistant coating including by weight:A) 130 to 310 parts of a linear epoxy or phenoxy resin solution per thousand parts of coating;B) 30 to 620 parts of a powdered metal or dust selected from the group consisting essentially of zinc, basic zinc molybdate, calcium zinc molybdate/zinc phosphate; basic calcium zinc molybdate, basic zinc molybdate/phosphate, tin, mica, aluminum, black iron oxide, cadmium, stainless steel and alloys and blends thereof per thousand parts of coating;C) 13 to 70 parts of a suspension agent per thousand parts of coating for supporting components A and B in the coating;D) 6 to 20 parts of a thixotropic agent per thousand parts of coating for preventing gelling prior to heat cure for producing a thin uniform distribution on the substrate; andE) the balance of the coating consisting essentially of an organic solvent selected from the group including aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents, aromatic hydrocarbons, glycols, and acetates and blends thereof.

  • Patent number: 4748194
Abstract: A corrosion resistant coating for application to a metal substrate including powdered metal selected from the group consisting essentially of zinc, cadmium, stainless steel, aluminum and alloys and blends thereof; a linear epoxy or phenoxy resin having a molecular weight of less than 15,000 and essentially no highly reactive terminal epoxy group; a cross-linking urethane resin; an active organic solvent selected from the group consisting essentially of acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, dimethylformamide, and blends thereof; and an inactive organic solvent selected from the group consisting essentially of aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, and blends thereof.

  • Patent number: 4391855
Abstract: A coating and method of protecting a metal substrate from corrosion by applying a thin film of a liquid composition on the substrate and heating the wet film to an elevated temperature for a period of time to dry or cure the film and thereby adhere a protective coating to the substrate without the maximum temperature of the substrate exceeding about 500.degree. F. and preferably 450.degree. F. The composition contains a primary corrosion inhibitor of powdered metal dispersed in a bonding material of linear epoxy or phenoxy resin and a vehicle of active and inactive organic solvents. Preferably, the composition also includes secondary corrosion inhibiting resins, a thioxotropic material, a hygroscopic material, a powdered metal suspension agent, and a material to neutralize the acidity of the linear epoxy or phenoxy resin.
