  • Patent number: 9015019
Abstract: A simulation platform for early evaluation of the performance of a cdma2000 radio access network uses a generic network simulator as the core simulation engine. The simulation platform includes a mobile device simulation module configured to simulate communications between mobile devices and radio access networks, and a network application simulation module configured to simulate network application functionality. In one embodiment, the network simulation engine, mobile device simulation module and the network application simulation module are linked to emulate end-to-end network communications.

  • Patent number: 8842525
Abstract: The present document describes a system and method for extending a wireless communication coverage area of a cellular wireless base station transceiver (BTS) to enable control signaling and identification of mobile stations not currently within a coverage area of an existing beamform antenna pattern of the BTS, for example. A cellular BTS may scan through dead zones of coverage areas provided by the BTS to identify mobile stations not within the coverage area of the BTS, but within a possible service area of the BTS. In addition, the BTS may receive a relaying control signal from a mobile station located within the coverage area of the BTS, and the signal will indicate a location of another mobile station not within the coverage area of the BTS but within the service area of the BTS. In either example, the BTS may attempt to provide a coverage area to the mobile station located in the control signaling dead zone, for example.

  • Patent number: 8825061
Abstract: Systems and methods for wireless network planning are provided. The wireless network capacity forecast can account for different usage patterns of different types of wireless communication services and/or of prepaid and postpaid mobile stations. The wireless network capacity forecast can also account for an ability of different mobile stations with different capabilities to operate in different frequency bands. The wireless network capacity forecast can identify base sites that should be split into two or more base sites.

  • Patent number: 8320920
Abstract: Methods for decommissioning wireless transmission sites include calculating coverage radii for wireless transmission stations, and representing the wireless transmission stations as a two-dimensional grid. In one embodiment, the virtual cells that comprise the grid having a virtual cell size that is based on the coverage radii. Virtual grid cells having excess wireless transmission stations are identified. Particular excess wireless transmissions stations are then selected for decommissioning based on a predetermined factor.

  • Patent number: 7925266
Abstract: The coverage radii for a number of wireless transmission stations is calculated based on one or both of a link budget analysis and a propagation model. At least one coverage gap may then be identified within a given coverage area of a communications network, and locations selected for new wireless transmission stations based on a location selection criteria. The previously-identified coverage gap information is updated to take into account the wireless coverage to be provided by the new wireless transmission station, after which additional passes of the coverage area may be performed to identify locations for additional new wireless transmission station based on both the location selection criteria and on the updated coverage gap.
