  • Patent number: 11087317
Abstract: A method to provide authentication services to third party vendors by a service provider hosting an authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) server or a similar device that can authenticate users for some other service. This method enables easy and substantially error-free end-user authentication, which forms the basis for enabling electronic transactions (e.g., web-based) that are less vulnerable to fraud.

  • Publication number: 20200089624
Abstract: A data block storage management capability is presented. A cloud file system management capability manages storage of data blocks of a file system across multiple cloud storage services (e.g., including determining, for each data block to be stored, a storage location and a storage duration for the data block). A cloud file system management capability manages movement of data blocks of a file system between storage volumes of cloud storage services. A cloud file system management capability provides a probabilistic eviction scheme for evicting data blocks from storage volumes of cloud storage services in advance of storage deadlines by which the data blocks are to be removed from the storage volumes. A cloud file system management capability enables dynamic adaptation of the storage volume sizes of the storage volumes of the cloud storage services.

  • Patent number: 9444840
Abstract: Various embodiments provide a method and apparatus of providing a distributed security service that runs light instances in a number of security devices and central instances of the security services in select security devices. A received or transmitted client content segment is directed to a light instance which either applies a security policy corresponding to the client content segment if the client content segment has been previously analyzed and has a valid security policy, or else, the light instance sends the client content segment to a central instance to be analyzed. The central instance may then provide a complete security analysis on the client content segment, determine a security policy corresponding to the client content segment and push the determined security policy to one or more of the light instances. Advantageously, a distributed security service delivery may provide highly secure, network efficient and cost effective security service delivery.

  • Patent number: 9100266
Abstract: The SoftRouter architecture separates the implementation of control plane functions from packet forwarding functions. In this architecture, all control plane functions are implemented on general purpose servers called the control elements (CEs) that may be multiple hops away from the forwarding elements (FEs). A network element (NE) or a router is formed using dynamic binding between the CEs and the FEs. There is a protocol failover mechanism for handling failovers initiated by FEs to transfer control from one CE to another CE.

  • Patent number: 9066195
Abstract: Various methods and devices are provided to address the need for improved neighbor detection. In a first method, a node (e.g., a mobile node or a network transceiver node) transmits (401) a neighbor discovery message that indicates a time at which neighbor discovery signaling is to occur. Then during the neighbor discovery signaling time, the node receives (402) signaling indicating a signature of at least one neighbor node. In a second method, a neighbor node receives (501) a neighbor discovery message that indicates a time at which neighbor discovery signaling is to occur. Then during the neighbor discovery signaling time, the neighbor node transmits (502) a signature identifying itself.

  • Patent number: 9055086
Abstract: An exemplary data transfer manager includes a datacenter configured to communicate over at least one link and a scheduler that is configured to schedule a plurality of jobs for communicating data from the datacenter. The scheduler determines a minimum bandwidth requirement of each job and determines a maximum bandwidth limit of each job. The scheduler determines a flex parameter of each job. The flex parameter indicates how much a data transfer rate can vary between adjacent data transfer periods for the job.

  • Patent number: 9007901
Abstract: A method and apparatus controlling, either individually or in the aggregate, traffic flows associated with a plurality of queues by transmitting traffic source FlowON messages at first times selected to avoid queue underflow conditions, and traffic source FlowOFF message at second times selected to avoid queue overflow conditions, where the first and second times are determined as a function of delay time D of a link supporting the traffic source.

  • Patent number: 9007978
Abstract: Various methods and devices are provided to address the need for improved multicast operation. In one method, a station transmits (401) a multicast packet to a plurality of mobile devices and to a group of monitoring stations (MSs). An indication of whether the multicast packet was received by that MS is received (402) from each monitoring station (MS) of the group of MSs. When this indication indicates that the multicast packet was not received, the multicast packet is retransmitted (403) to the plurality of mobile devices and to the group of MSs.

  • Patent number: 8996707
Abstract: The invention includes a method and apparatus for providing load balancing of control traffic received by a mobility home agent implemented using multiple control elements. A method includes receiving, from a node, a control message intended for the network element, performing a load-balancing operation to select one of the control elements to handle the control message, and propagating the control message toward the selected one of the control elements. The load-balancing operation is performed using at least two load-balancing metrics comprising a first metric and a second metric. The load-balancing operation is performed in a manner for maintaining a context between the node from which the control message is received and the selected one of the control elements, such that subsequent control messages received from the node are propagated to the selected one of the control elements.

  • Patent number: 8953432
Abstract: A dynamic binding protocol has three tasks that run in parallel: discovery, association, and operation. During discovery, control elements (CEs) and forwarding elements (FEs) learn about immediate neighbors and CEs in a SoftRouter network that has separate control and data planes. During association, FEs associate with CEs and are configured with basic parameters, such as IP interface addresses, hostnames, and the like. During operation, failover and packet tunneling between CEs and FEs is handled.

  • Patent number: 8868863
Abstract: Various embodiments provide a method and apparatus of providing a frugal cloud file system that efficiently uses the blocks of different types of storage devices with different properties for different purposes. The efficient use of the different types of available storage devices reduces the storage and bandwidth overhead. Advantageously, the reduction in storage and bandwidth overhead achieved using the frugal cloud file system reduces the economic costs of running the file system while maintaining high performance.

  • Patent number: 8699438
Abstract: Various methods and devices are provided to address the need to reduce paging latency. In one method, a wireless network determines (201) that a page for a mobile needs to be transmitted over a target broadcast area. The wireless network schedules (202) the transmission of the page in an upcoming paging timeslot based on the target broadcast area and then pages (203) the mobile in the target broadcast area before transmitting an earlier scheduled page for another mobile with a different target broadcast area.
