  • Patent number: 11919754
Abstract: A system and method that is configured to automatically control a spooling of a drum of a deployment unit used in hydrocarbon recovery operations. The method may comprise obtaining data related to a sensor and measurements system connected to the deployment unit. Processing the data obtained by the sensor and measurements system in a processing unit that makes a stochastic inference. Controlling an auto spooling of the drum of the deployment unit through an auto-spooling controller connected to the deployment unit based upon the stochastic inference.

  • Patent number: 11893778
Abstract: A method of controlling operation of equipment that spools an elongated member on and off a rotatable drum, in one or more embodiments, includes obtaining video data of a position of the elongated member on the rotatable drum. The method can also include feeding data into a trained artificial neural network and processing the data fed into the trained artificial neural network to determine at least one of a calculated position of the elongated member on the rotatable drum, a calculated fleet angle, or both. The method can also include actuating the rotatable drum to one of spool elongated member on and off the rotatable drum.

  • Publication number: 20180252056
Abstract: Maximum penetration of coiled tubing in extended reach horizontal wellbores is significantly increased by using a continuously tapered portion of coiled tubing. In particular, the tubing wall thickness is continuously tapered such that the well thickness gradually decreases toward the far end of the coiled tubing. The exterior dimension remains constant while the internal diameter gradually increases. The non-linear thickness profile of the tubing is optimized for extended reach in horizontal wellbores. In some cases, the thickness profile is optimized for providing a uniform axial strain on the tubing in the horizontal section of the well.

  • Patent number: 10041313
Abstract: A method for extending reach of a coiled tubing string in a deviated wellbore includes vibrating the tubing string while the tubing string is injected into the wellbore at a first injection speed, finding the peak speed of lateral vibration of the tubing string, determining a second injection speed as a function of the obtained peak speed of lateral vibration, and adjusting the injection speed of the vibrating tubing string from the first injection speed to the determined second injection speed based on said function. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium to execute the foregoing method is provided, along with a system for extending reach of a coiled tubing string in a deviated wellbore.
