  • Patent number: 4405131
Abstract: A puzzle device similar to that sold under the registered trademark RUBIK'S CUBE includes a hub with six orthogonally related square sockets, six mutually spaced circular retainers having inner and outer faces lying in spherical planes spaced from and concentric with the hub and coupled to respective sockets by square shanks, seven triangular slide members slidably underlying and bridging adjacent retainers and having outwardly projecting triangular shanks, an interlocking member having three ribs each of which is anchored in one of the recesses in the retainer, and three tongues each of which releasably engages recesses formed in the slide member peripheries and face members connected to the triangular shanks and having outside faces forming a regular three dimensional figure when the slide, retainer and interlocking member is in interlocked condition. The face members may have many different shapes, for example square, triangular, flattened spherical quadrants and form respectively different configurations.

  • Patent number: 4290622
Abstract: In a hinge unit which connects the members of articulated power vehicles such as tractors and which permits mutual pivotal movements of such members about a vertical and a horizontal axis, a front member is attached to a forward portion of the vehicle and a rear member is attached to a trailing portion of the vehicle while the front member and the rear member are interconnected by an intermediate member which is supported by a pair of bearings defining a vertical axis on the front member and by another pair of bearings defining a horizontal axis on the rear member, all three members forming together a universal or cardan joint.

  • Patent number: 4237273
Abstract: The invention relates to bis(nitrosoureido)-polyol derivatives of general formula IB.sub.1 --A--B.sub.2 (I)whereinA stands for an open chain polyol comprising 4 to 6 carbon atoms or a six-membered cyclic polyol, andB.sub.1 and B.sub.2 being attached to two different carbon atoms of the chain A, are identical or different, and stand for a group of general formula II ##STR1## wherein X stands for a halogen atom andY and Z stand for a hydrogen atom or a nitroso group, with the restriction, that in B.sub.1 and B.sub.2 Y and Z must be different. The above compounds possess valuable cytostatic activity.

  • Patent number: 4053262
Abstract: A motor mounting element of an aquarium pump mounts the pump motor and nests over the pump housing to position the motor over the housing and hold the housing together. Locking lugs on the motor mounting element orient the assembled parts of the housing to position the pump outlet in a desired direction.

  • Patent number: 4043914
Abstract: A pump has a large upper chamber containing an outlet, a smaller lower chamber containing an inlet, a flared transition portion between the lower and upper chambers, a driven vertical impeller extending within the chambers and the transition portion, and an aeration device in the transition portion, the aeration device being a projection into the transition portion with an upward slope facing the movement of the impeller therepast and an edge in the direction of rotation of the impeller, and an air valve controlling air flow through a channel leading into the pump at the edge of the projection.

  • Patent number: 4039453
Abstract: An aquarium filter tank pump has a housing with a large upper portion and a small lower portion joined by a transition. A motor driven impeller generally conforming to the inside of the housing draws water into an inlet in the bottom of the lower portion of the housing and discharges it through a generally tangential outlet tube extending from the upper portion and containing an adjustable flow constriction control. A bypass tube extends downward from an opening in the transition so that restriction of flow through the discharge tube controlling pump output is balanced by flow through the bypass tube.

  • Patent number: 4034780
Abstract: A check valve for use in a tube has a closure element hinged in the tube which nests within one side of the tube in the open position and pivots to substantially block the tube in the closed position. The closure element has a bottom edge and an upward extending edge which intersect at 90 degrees at the diameter of the closure element, the edges meeting the side of the closure element at points disposed one above the other a distance apart greater than the diameter of the tube. A tubular seat with upper surfaces conforming to the edges of the closure element in the closed position may be inserted below it as a press fit in the tube and the closure element may be hinged to the seat.

  • Patent number: 4014307
Abstract: A barrel for a ball throwing machine using air to expell balls from the barrel randomly directs balls within a lateral range of directions. Upper and lower crowned and centered ball contact strips extend the length of the barrel which widens laterally toward its muzzle. Adjustable side contact strips may be provided to limit the extent to which a ball may travel down one side of the barrel or the other. Some few balls remain precariously centered between the upper and lower strips for a straight throw, but most slip from between the spring tension of the upper and lower strips to reach the muzzle displaced to one side or the other to different extents. Rigidly mounted deflectors having inwardly extending surfaces on each side of the muzzle deflect balls striking them in the direction of the opposite side greatly amplifying the deviation in direction with which the balls leave the barrel. The deflectors may be adjusted to set the lateral range of directions within which balls are expelled.

  • Patent number: 3952929
Abstract: A clothes hanger has a hook, legs extending downward from the hook, and laterally extending garment engaging arms, at least the hook and the legs preferrably being bent from a single length of spring wire. Each arm is urged outward by one of the legs which has its lower end connected or integrally formed with the inner end of the arm, and each arm is slidable supported by the lower end of the other leg. In all embodiments of this invention, the arms are connected to the legs to be resiliently urged outwards thereby so that the outer ends of the arms may engage the inside of the waistband of a garment to support it. Some embodiments of this invention are fabricated from a single length of spring wire bent and formed according to a given process, the center of the wire being bent double to form the hook with the remainder of the wire forming the legs, the arms, and even additional telescoping garment support bars.
