  • Patent number: 4954715
Abstract: The invention discloses a method, device, and apparatus of very high reliability and stability for the multiparameter analysis of particles and cells in suspension. The very high reliability and stability of these devices follows from the fact that the various cavities, channels, and holes join everywhere at very small angles and therefore the joining or rejoining of the various liquids flowing in the device occurs with practically zero turbulence, and that nowhere in the flow-system do air bubbles get trapped because sharp edges and corners are eliminated everywhere within said system. From the fact that the cavities, channels, and holes join at small angles and are of short length follows that the cleaning and maintenance of said device is also very easy because the said character of said cavities, etc.

  • Patent number: 4936465
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling flows of fluids, suspensions, gases, aerosols, and for sorting individual particles, flowing in transporter ducts of a flow-through duct system, using for control of the flow and hence, for dispensing and sorting processes, a pressure increase for a short time interval, at the entrances of preselected ducts having a value so that the flow of the fluid or gas to be dispensed comes to a stop at these entrances and is thus constrained together with the particle to flow into ducts where the pressure increase does not take place during the same dispensing/sorting phase. The momentary pressure increase is caused at the ducts either by injection of another fluid or gas through the injection duct, corresponding to these ducts, or by generation of a gas bubble or vapor between electrodes situated at the entrance of these ducts.

  • Patent number: 4237416
Abstract: An apparatus for counting and sizing particles suspended in a liquid electrolyte, having first and second vessels for first liquid electrolyte having particles to be counted and sized suspended therein; and for particle-free second liquid electrolyte, respectively; first and second electrodes immersed in the first and second liquid electrolytes, respectively; an orifice having upstream and downstream sides and constituting a first particle-observing location in fluid flow connection on its upstream side with the first vessel and sized to allow one particle at a time to pass therethrough; and a fluid flow passage connecting with the downstream side of the orifice for carrying liquid electrolyte and particles away from the orifice to a second particle-observing location; and sized to carry the particles in the same sequence of flow as that in which they pass through the orifice to facilitate observation in that order at the second particle-observing location.
