  • Patent number: 4814614
Abstract: An ultraviolet (UV) fluorescence microspectrophotometry process for measuring fluorescence spectra of oils in individual micro-sized inclusions. Interpretation of UV fluorescence of oil inclusions in an unknown sample is made by comparison to fluorescence spectra of oils of known composition. This method is a non-destructive process which allows the quality of oils in the undrilled basin to be determined by analyzing outcrop samples containing oil-bearing inclusions. By comparing the fluorescence properties of inclusion oils and reservoir oils, the history of oil migration in petroleum basins can be reconstructed.

  • Patent number: 4528090
Abstract: This invention discloses a method of enriching raw oil shale by crushing and pulverizing raw oil shale or similar oil bearing materials into smaller, lean oil particles and larger, oil rich particles; floating the larger, oil rich particles in a heavy media organic liquid which causes the oil rich lighter particles to float on the surface and causes the heavier, mineral containing particles to sink. The floating larger, oil rich particles thus obtained contain increased percentages of oil bearing constituents.

  • Patent number: 4438077
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the recovery of uranium and other minerals from uranium ore where at least part of the uranium is present as refractory uranium-mineral complexes, comprising subjecting the uranium ore to mild oxidative carbonate leach fluid to dissolve and remove readily soluble uranium minerals, subsequently subjecting the uranium ore to an oxidative chemically severe leaching system to dissolve and remove the refractory uranium-mineral complexes, and separating and recovering the uranium and other mineral species in the leachate fluids. The process may be applied to in-situ uranium leaching operations or to surface leaching operations.
