  • Publication number: 20130333670
Abstract: In a reciprocating piston engine with a variable compression ratio in which a piston is movably disposed in a cylinder, an adjustment arrangement is provided for controlling the compression ratio of the engine including an adjusting part supported by a guide element depending on a signal provided by a detection means comprising a transducer part arranged on the adjusting part and a corresponding detection part, arranged on a housing part of the engine in connection with a control unit in which a desired momentary compression ratio setting is determined on the basis of a characteristic diagram stored in the control unit.

  • Patent number: 7934475
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine including cylinders arranged in a housing, a crankshaft, pistons disposed in the cylinders so as to be movable by the crankshaft, and a device for varying a compression ratio of the internal combustion engine wherein the device, for varying the compression ratio, includes an adjusting structure which varies the effective length of a connecting rod of the piston, the lift of the crankshaft or the position of the cylinder with respect to the center of the crankshaft, an operating structure is provided by rotation of which the position of the adjusting structure can be controlled, and a drive device for controlling the operating structures contains a coupling mechanism with an integrated brake function, whereby h the adjusting structure can either be placed in operative connection with the crankshaft or can be blocked.

  • Patent number: 7578269
Abstract: In an adjusting apparatus, particularly for an internal combustion engine having cylinders arranged in an engine block, with a crankshaft and with pistons movably disposed in the cylinders, the adjusting apparatus includes a pick-up which causes an adjustment of an adjustable device, and an adjusting element which is operatively connected to the pick-up, the adjusting element being arranged movably on an adjusting shaft (9) which can be moved by an actuator translationally with a cone as adjusting element or rotationally with an eccentric (8) as adjusting element.

  • Publication number: 20080105078
Abstract: In a camshaft adjusting device for adjusting a phase position of a camshaft, including a rotary actuator having a stator and at least one axially displaceable rotor and including a gear mechanism which is arranged operatively between two of at least three shafts, one of the shafts being a control shaft which is acted upon by the rotary actuator, one of the shafts being a drive shaft which is connected to the crankshaft, and one of the shafts being an output shaft which is connected to the camshaft, a compact locking structure is provided whereby at least two of the at least three shafts can be locked to one another in a rotationally fixed manner by a spring depending on operating conditions and released by an auxiliary coil which, upon energization, provides for axial movement of the rotor out of its locked position to permit adjustment thereof.

  • Publication number: 20080006232
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for coupling or decoupling two actuating elements of a valve drive of an internal combustion engine for operating a gas exchange valve, comprising a locking element movable between two end positions for coupling the actuating elements, an electromagnet for actuating the movable locking element, a permanent magnet is associated with the armature for holding the armature and the locking element in one end position and means for biasing the armature and the locking element in the opposite end position, the electromagnet is energizable in one sense for moving the armature into one end position in which the armature is retained by the permanent magnet with a force greater than a counteracting force generated by the biasing means, and in the opposite sense so as to generate a force exceeding that of the permanent magnet for moving the armature in the opposite end position, where it is retained by said biasing means.
