  • Patent number: 9459910
Abstract: A method, for controlling a layered device driver is discussed. The device driver includes three components divided between user space and kernel space. A control process operating in user space may be used to initiate device driver processes and control a shared memory space.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 13, 2013
Date of Patent: October 4, 2016
    Assignee: EMC Corporation
Inventors: Marshall L. Merrill, Tim C. Mantooth
  • Patent number: 9436621
Abstract: A layered device driver operating on a computer system is discussed. The device driver includes three components: an application component operating in user space, an interface component operating in kernel space, and a physical component operating in kernel space.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 13, 2013
Date of Patent: September 6, 2016
    Assignee: EMC Corporation
Inventors: Marshall L. Merrill, Tim C. Mantooth
  • Patent number: 9378046
Abstract: A method for manipulating a hardware device using a layered device driver is discussed. An application may submit an instruction to an application driver component operating in user space. The instruction may be transmitted from the application driver component to an interface driver component operating in kernel space. The instruction may be transmitted again to a physical driver component, which thereafter manipulates a hardware component in accordance with the instruction.

    Filed: March 13, 2013
Date of Patent: June 28, 2016
    Assignee: EMC Corporation
Inventors: Marshall L. Merrill, Tim C. Mantooth
