Abstract: A customizable sole insert for a shoe, the sole insert comprising: a top layer having a first plurality of holes through the top layer; a middle layer having a conforming and curable hardening material; a bottom layer having a second plurality of holes through the bottom layer; wherein the top layer, middle layer, and bottom layers are fastened together by a fastener; wherein a fluid applied to the middle layer causes the middle layer to cure; wherein the middle layer conforms to a plantar aspect area or sole of a foot of a user. Further comprising: a top cover attached to to a top outside surface of the top layer; and, a bottom cover attached to a bottom outside surface of the bottom layer. The customizable sole insert has a method for constructing the sole insert and a method for activating the sole insert.

There is a method of installing a removably mountable casing having preattached mounting components to a vehicle dashboard. The method comprises removing the dashboard, aligning the casing against a front side of the dashboard; preparing the dashboard at a location where a plurality of mating components will be attached; attaching the plurality of mating components to the location; reconnecting the dashboard; and mounting the casing such that the mounting components correspondingly mate to the mating components on the dashboard.

The hard layer can be successively ground and coated with successive layers of alkyl cycanoacrylate.

Abstract: An orthopedic insert is disclosed that comprises an orthotic shell and a plurality of cuts made about at least a portion of the periphery of the orthotic shell. The orthotic shell typically comprises an arch portion made of a semi-flexible material. As a patient's weight is applied to the insert, and particularly the orthotic shell, the cuts localize the flexing in the arch portion as a result of the downward force being applied by the patient, thus reducing pressures along the orthotic edges and diminished muscle strain.

The insert is initially comprised of a bottom layer or shell; a formable layer which can be hardened into a particular shape; and a top cushion layer for contact with a wearer's foot or sock. The shell has an aperture for injecting a hardening agent to accelerate the hardening of the formable layer. After the insert is selected, the hardening agent is injected through the aperture and the wearer stands upon the top cushion layer until the formable layer has hardened. The result is a formable layer which is substantially conformed to the plantar aspect of the wearer's foot.

Abstract: A method for making a customized orthotic device utilizing a pre-made sole having a plurality of elongated members extending from the bottom of the sole and inserting each of the elongated members into apertures of a cutting device. Once inserted through the apertures, the distal tips of the elongated members contact a resistance layer which resists the downward movement of the elongated members. A person's foot is then rested on the topside surface of the insert; thereby depressing the insert and elongated member tips into the resistance layer. The compressive force of the foot against the resistance layer tends to conform the insert about the plantar aspect of the foot. A cutting mechanism is then used to cut the elongated members. The finished product, is customized to the foot of the person and is ready to be inserted into a shoe.

Abstract: The overetching that occurs during the formation of contact openings in a substantially planarized layer of insulation material is substantially reduced by changing the thickness of the insulation material that is formed over the top conductive structure of a semiconductor device, and by forming the openings to the top conductive structure during the fabrication of a second metal layer rather than during the formation of a first metal layer.
