  • Patent number: 6244370
Abstract: A drive system for a grounds care device using two identical final drives in combination with two identical power units to provide directional drive to the wheels. The final drives and power units are assembled to each other differently for use on each side to provide the required relative reverse rotation of each drive wheel while maintaining the same direction of control movement for forward (or reverse) movement of each drive wheel (in regards to machine movement). Additionally, the drive belt for the cutting unit is routed between the power units (rather than under or over) to allow a lower center of gravity for increased stability.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 1, 1999
Date of Patent: June 12, 2001
    Assignee: MTD Products Inc
    Inventor: Tim Peter
  • Patent number: 5921142
Abstract: A neutral biasing system is disclosed using a neutral biased biasing system on a control column to bias a remote power unit into a neutral condition.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5813203
Abstract: An implement lift mechanism for a grounds care device uses a lost motion interconnection between a rotary lift flange and an integral lift/connector link coaxial therewith to selectively control the height of the implement. The lost motion interconnection allows the implement to float upwards over uneven terrain. Additionally, a spring can be used to assist in aiding the implement and reducing lift force.

  • Patent number: 5375674
Abstract: A control for a lawn and garden vehicle, such control utilizing a "U" shaped main direction control pivotally mounted to the handlebars. The control being physically interconnected to a transmission such that movement of the direction control forward causes the vehicle to move forward, and movement of the direction control backward causes the vehicle to move in reverse with the control being spring biased into a central neutral position.

  • Patent number: 5355665
Abstract: A full flotation mower deck for a rear engine walk behind lawn mower, such flotation deck including a fixed frame having a pivoting axle, with the mower deck independently supported by anti-scalping wheels and interconnected to the frame by pins with a separate mechanical interconnection between the mower deck and the frame for forward and aft movement in respect thereto.
