  • Publication number: 20130173575
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide in part a method to conduct a search for information in a network. The method includes operating a user interface of a device to initiate the sending of a search request via a first channel; and indicating via the user interface selectively whether received information from at least one local source via a second channel is to be included as at least a part of the search. The embodiments of the invention further provide a node of a communication system, where the node includes a transmitter for communicating to a receiver of a device during mobility of the device, and where the node is operable for transmitting a predetermined search word set to the receiver for use by the device for composing a search request to a search engine.

  • Patent number: 8364169
Abstract: Systems and methods applicable, for instance, in proximity networking activity. For example, nodes and/or other computers may record, receive, and/or provide information regarding proximity networking activity. As another example, nodes and/or other computers may act to inform their users of proximity networking activity instances.

  • Publication number: 20060133414
Abstract: A portable gateway apparatus communicates with devices coupled to a first network and devices coupled to at least a second network. The gateway provides an interface to a mobile phone to discover services/devices within both the first and the at least second networks and interacts with them. The mobile phone includes a service/content directory enabling a user to select preferred services. The gateway conducts service discovery to identify services and devices responsive to the user request. The services and description are provided to the user for selection, after which a service-specific interface is displayed to enable the mobile phone to control the execution of the discovered services.

  • Patent number: 7027417
Abstract: In connection-oriented switching of packet data in known mobile communications systems, resources of the transmission path between the serving node (SGSN) and the radio network subsystem (RNS) and memory resources of the radio network subsystem are reserved unnecessarily due to the burst-like nature of packet data. Thus the transmission network's limited address space and the radio network subsystem's management resources are consumed. The invention concerns such connection management in a mobile communications system, which is suitable for packet-switched data transmission. The method according to the invention is characterized in that the logical connection between the serving node (SGSN) and the radio network subsystem (RNS) is released, so that the logical connection between the serving node (SGSN) and the mobile station (MS) remains, and the released logical connection is reconnected, when relaying of user data starts.

  • Patent number: 6931253
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for management of bearers in cellular telecommunication systems in such a situation, when the demand of services is greater than the capacity of the network to provide such services. According to the invention, a set of priority values is associated with each bearer. Preferably, the set of priority values comprises an absolute priority value, which is the same for all bearers associated with a certain USIM, and a relative priority value, which defines the priority order of the bearers associated with a certain USIM. The network uses these priority values to determine, which bearer is dropped, when not enough resources are available.

  • Patent number: 6847625
Abstract: A short-range RF access point contains a plurality of wireless transceiver devices. At least one device is programmed to remain a master device. At least a second device is programmed to remain a scanning slave device. At least a third device is responsive to a control signal provided by a coordinating module to switch between an inquiry/paging state and a master device state according to the communication load of the first device as calculated by the coordinating module. When the calculated load exceeds a threshold, the control signal is sent to the third device which is programmed to switch from an inquiry/paging state to a master device state for reducing the communication load. The coordinating module balances the load of the first and third devices in the master device state. When the communication load falls below the threshold, the coordinating module sends a signal to the third device to return to the inquiry/paging state.

  • Publication number: 20030093600
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling the displaying of information in an electronic device comprising means for displaying visual information. In the method, the distance between the user and the electronic device is measured, and the size of information to be displayed on the display is changed when the distance between the user and the electronic device is changed. The invention also relates to an electronic device comprising means for displaying visual information. The electronic device also comprises means for measuring the distance between the user and the electronic device, and means for changing the size of displayed information when the distance between the user and the electronic device is changed.
