  • Patent number: 6731641
Abstract: According to the invention, an ATM switch is used for returning signalling cells to their input side and to an apparatus which is located there for processing signalling cells and which performs SAR functions. The apparatus (56) processing signalling cells is connected to the ATM layer circuit (52) using a UTOPIA interface according to the standard. Seen from the ATM layer circuit, the processing apparatus does not hereby in any way differ from those physical layer circuits (PHY) connected to it through the UTOPIA interface which connect the optical fibres to the ATM node.

  • Publication number: 20030043795
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for arranging a connection between the logical sides of a network element of a telecommunication network, which system comprises a network element (210) which comprises units that have been logically divided into a first side and second side and which units comprise the multiplexing unit of the first side (211A2), and which units comprise the multiplexing unit of the second side (211R2) and which network element (210) has been at least partly implemented by means of the ATM technique. In accordance with the invention, the system further comprises an ATM interface (212) for connecting the multiplexing unit of the first side (211A2) and the multiplexing unit of the second side (211R2) to one another. The present invention provides the advantage that it makes it possible to arrange a connection between the logically divided sides of a network element of a telecommunication network, in which case the sides in question see the resources of one another.

  • Patent number: 6430189
Abstract: In computers (Processor Unit 1, . . . , Processor Unit N) that handle the operation of an ATM switch, applications may communicate with each other by transmitting internal traffic cells to each other, which are transported among other subscriber traffic. By assigning service categories to the applications, which correspond as well as possible to their quality needs, it is possible to optimize the quality of the connection services of internal connections. By setting the traffic parameters of internal traffic individually changeable, internal traffic and subscriber traffic can be integrated in the best possible way. In the preferred embodiment, the service category can be selected connection-specifically. In such a case, each application selects the best possible service category. In the second embodiment, the connection-specific category is selected to be the same for all the applications. In such a case, all the applications use the same predetermined service category.

  • Patent number: 5841774
Abstract: A method and system for controlling a statistically multiplexed ATM bus, to the bus being connected a bus controller and interface units for transmission of packets, i.e. cells, over the bus, in which, having detected, for each cell to be transmitted to an ATM bus, the address of the interface unit participating in the transmission, the bus controller sets the address on an address bus of the ATM bus, thereby activating transmission of the cell from the bus controller to the interface unit, or vice versa, over a data bus of the ATM bus. During the transmission of the cell, the bus controller fetches the next interface unit address for transmission of the next cell from or to the interface unit concerned.
