  • Patent number: 7788421
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for directing airflow through a computing device. This system comprises an airflow baffle, which includes a set of signal pins and a circuit. The airflow baffle is configured to direct airflow through the computing device, and the set of signal pins are configured to interface the airflow baffle with the computing device. Moreover, the circuit in the airflow baffle is coupled to the set of signal pins, and is configured to use the signal pins to notify the computing device that the airflow baffle is installed in the computing device.

  • Patent number: 7768797
Abstract: A chassis identification system is described which enables a motherboard in a computer system to identify a type of chassis in which the motherboard is installed. This chassis identification system is composed of a motherboard, a set of conductive fastener mounts on the motherboard, and a sensing circuit on the motherboard that is coupled to the set of conductive fastener mounts. The set of conductive fastener mounts on the motherboard are configured to accommodate different patterns of conductive fasteners which are associated with different types of chassis. Moreover, the sensing circuit on the motherboard is configured to generate a chassis identifier based on a pattern of the conductive fasteners on the chassis.

  • Patent number: 7590986
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product for providing a device includes incorporating a session ID into the device name. Communication between an application and device is done by way of a pseudo device driver which identifies the appropriate daemon based on the session id, and forwards the data to the daemon where the daemon provides the data to the device. In operations, the system detects a requirement to access a device during a user session and obtains a session identification associated with the user session. A daemon creates a single device node having an identity that indicates the session identification associated with the user session and a pseudo device driver receives a request to access a device from an application associated with the user session.
