  • Publication number: 20080033377
Abstract: An adhesively attachable bandage for an open wound. A one-way valve permits air or other fluids to move through the bandage in one direction, as to escape from a body cavity, but prevents fluids from moving in the other direction, as in entering the wound. A selectively sealable port can be opened to give access directly to the wound. The bandage may be transparent.

  • Publication number: 20070193960
Abstract: A method for a liquid-liquid extraction of hydrophilic organic compounds from aqueous solutions thereof is described. The method generally includes intermixing a sufficient quantity of a specified glycol ether with the aqueous liquor at a first temperature to form a suspension comprising an aqueous raffinate phase and a glycol ether extract phase; separating the glycol ether extract phase from the aqueous raffinate phase; heating the glycol ether extract phase to a second, higher temperature to form a suspension comprising an aqueous extract phase containing a portion of the hydrophilic organic compound and a glycol ether raffinate phase; and separating this glycol ether raffinate phase from the aqueous extract phase. The selected glycol ether has an inverse solubility in water and the partition ratio, value K, for the hydrophilic organic compound is greater than 0.1.

  • Publication number: 20070016248
Abstract: The invention relates to a medical gripping and/or cutting instrument with a shaft having on its distal end a tool consisting of at least two jaw members and on its proximal end a handle consisting of at least two gripping members. For opening and closing, at least one jaw member of the tool can be displaced with respect to the other jaw member of the tool by means of a rotatably configured gripping member of the handle. To produce a medical gripping and/or cutting instrument that allows operation that relieves the hand along with optimized action, it is proposed with the invention that at least one portion of at least one gripping member of the handle can rotate around the longitudinal axis of this gripping member.

  • Publication number: 20050033356
Abstract: The invention relates to a medical grasping and holding instrument with a handle consisting of two handgrips and with a holding portion that consists of at least two jaw members and can be activated by the handle. The jaw members of the holding portion can be locked by means of a spring element both in an end position that releases the holding portion and in an end position that locks the holding portion. In order to create a medical grasping and holding instrument that is of simple construction, can be operated with just one hand, and is easy to clean, it is proposed with this invention that the spring element, configured as a flat spring, for locking the jaw members (3a, 3b) in their end positions is mounted between the handgrips of the handle so as to connect the two handgrips to one another in such a way that the spring element can be moved by way of a storage point of a handgrip at the spring element between two end positions that release the spring element.

  • Patent number: 6781544
Abstract: A combination of near omni-directional antennas and internal patch antennas, all built into an access point in accordance with FCC requirements. Typically a printed antenna array is used for the near omni-directional antenna, and the internal patch antenna is a TM10 mode stacked patch antenna. A mechanical detect switch changes antenna types automatically, depending on the rotation state of the antenna system. Alternately, a configuration utility enables a user to select the antenna type for the access point when it is installed in the field. This arrangement gives the UNII access point flexibility to be mounted in various orientations and match the characteristics of the antenna to the installation requirements.

  • Patent number: 6699255
Abstract: A device for the delivery of a shape memory securing member into a confined space, the device having an exit for the securing member and means to move the securing member through the exit, the device further including a magazine having a plurality of channels each of which can store a securing member is described. Preferably, each securing member is restrained in the device in a first configuration, and upon passing through the exit adopts a second configuration. One form of the magazine is a barrel. The barrel may be rotatable around an axis, and the channels can be disposed parallel to said axis or may lie in a helical configuration. This arrangement can be likened to a “revolver barrel” on a firearm. One advantage of the present invention in surgery is that it can store several sutures or ligature multiple placements without the need to withdraw the instrument from the patient.
