Patent number: 11005693Abstract: A cyclic prefix is configured for transmissions on a cellular network using a Radio Access Technology based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). At a User Equipment (UE) of the cellular network, information is determined for calculating a delay spread for transmission symbols from a base station of the cellular network to the UE. A cyclic prefix for the transmissions is identified based on the determined information. A delay spread can be established from received transmission symbols by: determining a coherence bandwidth based on whether a channel coefficient for each of the transmission symbols varies more than a predefined threshold, the delay spread being established using the determined coherence bandwidth; and/or determining a relationship between a cyclic prefix associated with the transmission symbols and a signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio, SINR, for the received transmission symbols, the delay spread being established using the determined relationship.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2017Date of Patent: May 11, 2021Assignee: VODAFONE IP LICENSING LIMITEDInventors: Razieh Razavi, Timothy Frost

Patent number: 10448252Abstract: A GSM, UMTS or LTE mobile telecommunications network includes a radio access network comprising base stations, and further includes one or more additional access points. An access point may be connected to the network core by an IP transport broadband connection. The access point is configured to appear to the mobile terminal as a base station. Arrangements are disclosed which allow the network to restrict access to the network via these access points whilst also minimizing signaling requirements. The access points may be excluded from traditional Tracking Areas, but associated therewith by a network controller in a mapping in order to notify authorized mobile terminals of the Access Point's existence.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2017Date of Patent: October 15, 2019Assignee: Vodafone IP Licensing LimitedInventors: David A. Fox, Timothy Frost, Gavin Wong, Jonathon Batkin, Jose-Luis Carrizo-Martinez

Patent number: 9743344Abstract: Providing a mobile terminal with system information which enables the terminal to access one of the cells of a cellular telecommunications system includes transmitting from the telecommunications system to all terminals within the cell, including the terminal, a system information indicator that makes available to the terminal system information to provide access to the system. The system information indicator is transmitted on the broadcast channel (BCH). The system information indicator may be a sub-set of the system information conventionally transmitted on the BCH but which is sufficient to allow the mobile terminal to access the network and obtain in the downlink further system information. Alternatively, the information transmitted in the BCH may be a profile index value which directs the mobile terminal to retrieve from a store of the mobile terminal system information pre-stored on the mobile terminal.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2014Date of Patent: August 22, 2017Assignee: Vodafone Group PLCInventors: David Andrew Fox, Timothy Frost

Patent number: 9560543Abstract: The invention relates to a cellular communication network serving mobile terminals or devices and how to optimize the switching between Dual Cell High-Speed Uplink Packet Access [DC-HSUPA] and Single Cell High-Speed Uplink Packet Access [SC-HSUPA] and vice versa. This invention makes the reconfiguration to dual cell or single cell HSUPA depending on the UE power, available capacity in the cells, sufficient data from UE, and UE battery consumption.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2013Date of Patent: January 31, 2017Assignee: Vodafone IP Licensing LimitedInventors: Francisco Javier Dominguez Romero, Timothy Frost, Yannick Le Pezennec

Patent number: 9353953Abstract: A horizontal venturi burner has at least one burner ring, if not several, supplied by respective ports which supply air/fuel mixture thereto. The ports are directed at orifice holders which are received in receivers preferably formed in cast top and bottom pots. The receivers may have openings on either side which allow single direction installation of the holders and preferably prevent rotation by having adjacent and cooperating flats/faces therein, as well as openings which properly position the holders in a desired axial arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2013Date of Patent: May 31, 2016Assignee: Burner Systems International, Inc.Inventor: Timothy Frost
