Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically generating tags for digital content are provided. The method is adapted to be run on a computer, which is an example of the type of apparatus which may generate the tags. The generated tags describe the digital content, and may be used as topics for the content to organize, retrieve, and process the content. The tag generation begins by accessing content from a content collection unit and a tags candidate tag database unit, which are then processed using techniques from computational linguistics in a multi-pass process that generates sets of tags, then refines and normalizes them. Finally, scores are generated and stored along with the tags.

Abstract: A document taxonomy alignment system and method, relying on document glosses and utilizing a soft ontology expansion. An all-new hierarchical leaf node can be created expressly for the purpose of better aligning the plurality of document taxonomies in question. A small but valuable subset of the nodes created by soft ontology expansion turn out to capture some otherwise unmappable taxonomy nodes, and thereby have the effect of classifying the documents better than would any pre-existing node in any one of those taxonomies.

In one embodiment, the opinion analyzer system includes a processor, a parser module, an prose analyzer module, a characteristic features database, and a language value rules database. In another embodiment, the method comprises the steps of parsing language of a portion of a user review, extracting characteristic feature from the user review, determining a quality parameter based on the extracted characteristic feature, determining a raw score based on the quality parameter, and determining quality of the user review based on the raw score.

Abstract: A search system with a user interface module that generates a search engine results page including a listing of reference documents, each with a hyperlink to at least one secondary document relevant to the reference document. The search system also includes a text function tagger that parses text excerpts of the documents, and applies text function tags thereto. A secondary processing module is provided which identifies those secondary documents that have a text function tag that matches a text function tag of a reference document, so that selection of the hyperlink generates a display of secondary documents that are determined to at least have a text function tag that matches a text function tag of the reference document for which corresponding hyperlink was selected. A method and computer readable medium are also provided.

The query processing module also determines which of the candidate synonym words are equivalent terms to the search query term, and in a same sense as the search query term. In addition, the search system includes a search engine that executes a search based on the search query term and the equivalent terms.

The product catalog includes product information records indicating product characteristics and product prices from specific merchants. The method includes receiving a query for product information, processing the query to determine matching product information records in the catalog that satisfy the query, clustering the product information records in accordance with the identity of the product in the product information records and presenting the product information records as a displayable presentation of product offerings including a product identity, a merchant, and a product price. The product offerings are grouped in accordance with said clustering step.
