  • Publication number: 20150082180
Abstract: Approaches enable three-dimensional (3D) display and interaction with interfaces (such as a webpage, an application, etc.) when the device is operating in a 3D view mode. For example, interface elements can be highlighted, emphasized, animated, or otherwise altered in appearance, and/or arrangement in the renderings of those interfaces based at least in part on an orientation of the device or a position of a user using the device. Further, the 3D view mode can provide for an animated 3D departure and appearance of elements as the device navigates from a current page to a new page. Further still, approaches provide for the ability to specify 3D attributes (such as the appearance, action, etc.) of the interface elements. In this way, a developer of such interfaces can use information (e.g., tags, CSS, JavaScript, etc.) to specify a 3D appearance change to be applied to at least one interface element when the 3D view mode is activated.

  • Publication number: 20150003548
Abstract: A method includes transmitting reference signals to user equipment from an active antenna array system including a multiple of antennas arrayed in at least a vertical direction. The active antenna array system is configured to perform the transmitting of the reference signals using multiple vertical beams having vertical patterns designed to provide desired vertical patterns after codebook feedback from a codebook is applied on transmissions from logical ports of the antenna array. The method includes receiving codebook feedback from the user equipment in response to transmitting the reference signals. The method includes transmitting information to the user equipment at least by applying selected entries of the codebook corresponding to the codebook feedback to the logical ports of the antenna array, wherein application of the selected entries causes the active antenna array system to perform transmitting information using multiple beams having the desired vertical patterns.

  • Publication number: 20140355702
Abstract: A method includes receiving a number of indicators from a number of UEs. Each value of an indicator corresponds to entry(ies) of a codebook the corresponding UE recommends to be used for transmission. The method includes assigning the UE to a number of groups, including a first group of UEs having values of indicators corresponding to first codebook entries that when applied to an antenna array produce a pattern in elevation that steers a beam away from an underlying cell, and a second group of UEs having values of indicators corresponding to second codebook entries that are different from the first codebook entries. The method includes transmitting, in a first set of RBs having a first characteristic, to the UEs in the first group and transmitting, in a second set of RBs having a second, different characteristic, to the UEs in the second group. Apparatus and program products are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20140337800
Abstract: A computing device can utilize a recognition mode wherein an interface utilizes graphical elements, such as virtual fireflies or other such elements, to indicate objects that are recognized or identified. As objects are recognized, fireflies perform one or more specified actions to indicate recognition. A ribbon or other user-selectable icon is displayed indicates a specific action that the device can perform with respect to the respective object. As additional objects are recognized, additional ribbons are created and older ribbons can be moved off screen and stored for subsequent retrieval or search. The fireflies disperse when the objects are no longer represented in captured sensor data, and can be animated to move towards representations of new objects as features of those objects are identified as potential object features, in order to communicate a level of recognition for a current scene or environment.

  • Patent number: 8848815
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing channel feedback is provided herein. During operation a covariance matrix at time t (R) is calculated as a function of a received downlink signal. Matrix Ct is also calculated and is based on a previous quantized covariance matrix (Rqt?1), the covariance matrix (R) at time t, and a forgetting factor (?) that is applied to Rqt?1. The Ct is then used to create a DERC feedback message (signal or waveform) and may be transmitted with pilots on a proper feedback channel to a base unit. The base unit receives the feedback (Ct) as a DERC waveform on a proper feedback channel. The base unit uses non-coherent or coherent detection to detect the DERC values send by the remote unit and uses the DERC values with a previous quantized covariance matrix estimate, a forgetting factor, and a weighting value to compute a covariance matrix estimate to use for beamforming.

  • Patent number: 8663142
Abstract: A joint having two-axis construction having a distal member and a main member joined in co-linear pivotal relation that provides enhanced joint strength and compactness. Hydraulics further provide variable extension assist and an infinite number of flexion stops for controlled flexion flow, and two gears provide a functional gear ratio that also promotes compact construction by reducing the amount of hydraulic piston travel required for maximum joint extension. A drive gear associated with the main member is positioned between the distal end of the piston and a transfer gear partially press-fit into a cut-out in the distal member, to provide needed radial hydraulic force transfer. Although it is contemplated for joint use to be primarily in orthotic devices that assist the movement of an inadequately functioning body limb, any application for which the mechanical joint's compact configuration would provide assistance or technical advantage is considered to be within its scope.

  • Patent number: 8619894
Abstract: Systems and techniques for beamforming are disclosed. Codebook antenna ports, such as ports defined by the 8 transmit antenna LTE codebook, are mapped to sub-elements of an antenna array arranged to form a plurality of elevation and azimuth ports, such as 4 elevation and 2 azimuth ports or 2 elevation and 4 azimuth ports. The mapping is chosen so as to optimize performance. Phasing values may also be applied to signal components provided as inputs to the sub-elements, with the values chosen to maximize performance, such as rank 1 gain or rank 2 or higher performance.

  • Patent number: 8619542
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing channel feedback is provided herein. During operation a covariance matrix at time t (R) is calculated as a function of a received downlink signal. In order to reduce overhead, R is normalized and quantized. The base unit then uses the covariance matrix estimate to determine appropriate channel beamforming weights, and instructs transmit beamforming circuitry to use the appropriate weights. In an embodiment, circuitry performs a method of calculating a first precoding matrix index I from a codebook using a received signal, calculating a second codebook index J* using the first precoding matrix index I to approximate a covariance matrix and calculating a quantized coefficient ?* to approximate the covariance matrix wherein the quantized coefficient ?* is determined using the first precoding matrix index I.
