  • Patent number: 7805038
Abstract: A birefringent elongate waveguide for guiding light, comprises: a core region (110), comprising an elongate region of relatively low refractive index; and a cladding region (100), comprising elongate regions (105) of relatively low refractive index interspersed with elongate regions (117,120) of relatively high refractive index. In a transverse cross-section of the waveguide, a (5) relatively high refractive index boundary region (115) is provided that surrounds the core region and has either (1) at most two-fold rotational symmetry or (2) a rotational symmetry that reduces the rotational symmetry of the waveguide to at most two-fold rotational symmetry. The symmetry of the boundary region (115) results at least in part from azimuthal variations therein, which are substantially uncharacteristic of the cladding region (100).

  • Publication number: 20100100470
Abstract: Embodiment of the invention provide tools that take a person's financial data (accumulated from one or multiple sources and financial institutions) and determines which transactions are regular and which are ad hoc and then projects future cash flow. In one embodiment, the tool is configured to use this projected cash flow data to make automatic recommendations on how the user can save money in the future based on known offers and/or transactions made by others.

  • Publication number: 20090272279
Abstract: The invention is a universal or designated storage apparatus, facility, or appliance with increased versatility and sophisticated storage fundamentals and capabilities for the storage of a wide variety of items. It provides support for complimenting and assisting with the use and coordination of the apparatus and the items kept within, while utilizing simple and basic storage means and methods in order to remain efficient, effective, and convenient. Items can then be accessed more frequently without hassle or burden. It may also include vacuum pumping means to remove or expel air from within a sealed storage area in order to form a vacuum or partial vacuum, negative atmospheric pressure, or suction creating means. This provides an air-free environment for items to be kept within, which retains freshness and retards the formation of mold or other contaminants. It may also provide means to allow items kept within to be organized and coordinated in a customizable fashion.

  • Publication number: 20080038518
Abstract: A method of forming air gaps within a solid structure is provided. In this method, a sacrificial material is covered by an overlayer. The sacrificial material is then removed through the overlayer to leave an air gap. Such air gaps are particularly useful as insulation between metal lines in an electronic device such as an electrical interconnect structure. Structures containing air gaps are also provided.
