Abstract: A system for routing packets in an ad hoc wireless network. In response to entering the ad hoc wireless network, location data is broadcast to other nodes within the ad hoc wireless network. Location data is received from the other nodes within the ad hoc wireless network. The received location data is recorded in a routing table. In response to determining that one or more packets need to be transmitted, a best route is calculated to transmit the one or more packets within the ad hoc wireless network using data in the routing table. Then, the one or more packets are transmitted to a node within the ad hoc wireless network based on the calculated best route.

Abstract: The creator or author of the Web document or page at the Web site source of the page is enabled to prioritize all of the hyperlinks to other Web documents embedded in the Web page in order to optimize the needs such as the business needs of the host. The prioritization is applied in the determination of the order in which the Web documents linked to the activated embedded hyperlinks in the Web document are to be accessed. The system is implemented through the inclusion of a hypertext markup language tag associated with each of the prioritized hyperlinks indicative of the priority level of the associated hyperlink. The implementation for designating a priority level for each of the hyperlinks may be enabled to change any previously designated priority levels for said hyperlinks. Such changes in any previously designated priority levels could be made applicable to the priority levels in previously distributed copies of said Web document.

Abstract: Simplifying any cumbersome URLs that are made public. The function of converting to simplify cumbersome URLs is performed by Web service providers for appropriate fees. Accordingly, the converted URL will have a new domain portion, i.e. the Web service provider's domain along with a simplified path portion defining the path with the Web service provider's domain that will point to the original URL, stored within the service provider. Within the service provider, URLs of said accessed Web documents are converted to include a domain section specifying the service provider's domain and a path portion within said service provider's domain that is simpler than the original URL path portion. The path portion in the converted URL is usually shorter than the path portion in the original URL.

In response to determining that the mobile device is not sending or receiving transmissions, a task is requested from a server via a network. In response to receiving the task from the server, the task is routed to a processor of the mobile device to process the task and return a task result. Then, the task result is sent to the server via the network.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for locating and retrieving specified data content in a database. The data comprises compressed digital audio or video data files associated with the recorded speech. Retrieval of the specified content requires decompression of only a portion of the compressed data. A method for locating specified content of the above type is provided. A compressed audio file comprising recorded speech is converted into a corresponding text file. A searchable index is constructed from the text file. One or more specified search arguments are used to search respective elements of the searchable index in order to detect one or more text segments. The identifiers of respective detected segments are then used to locate the specified content in the audio file. Only portions of the audio file that contain specified content require decompression, in order to retrieve the content.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for retrieving specified data content derived from recorded speech. An embodiment comprises converting a compressed audio file comprising recorded speech into a corresponding text file divided into multiple segments having unique identifiers. An index constructed from the text file comprises index elements, each associated with particular information in a text file segment. The index is searched to detect one or more text segments, each containing at least some of the specified content. Identifiers of respective detected segments are then used to locate the specified content in the audio file. Only portions of the audio file that contain specified content require decompression, in order to retrieve the content.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for managing streaming media data. A graphical user interface having a set of controls for use in managing a media data stream is presented. User input is received for use in managing the media data stream in which the user input includes an identification of a source of the media data stream, a start time, and a desired format. The media data stream is requested using the start time and the identification of the source. The media data stream is converted into the desired format to form a formatted media data stream. The formatted media data stream is then stored on a storage media.

Abstract: A consumer is provided with an implementation to personalize his compact optical recording discs. A compact optical recording disc comprising a primary section including a read-only permanent digital data recording, and an ancillary read-write section enabling a user to digitally record data to thereby personalize the recording disc to the needs of the user. The section including the read-only permanent digital recording is on a spiral track on said recording disc, and the read-write section is on a spiral track extension continuous with the continuous track. The read-only spiral track comprises a layer of sequential bumps defining the permanent digital data recording pattern, and the read-write spiral track extension comprises a smooth layer of laser beam sensitive material, the material reversibly darkens upon exposure to define the digital data recording pattern.

Abstract: Enabling the server systems managing E-mail distribution, as well as the server systems managing Web site document distribution to selectively reduce the quality of images in E-mail and Web pages in order to maintain effective transmission and storage of such electronic documents. An implementation in the document transmission path intermediate the document sources and the receiving display stations determines the number of colors in the color palettes of images in transmitted documents, and a device responsive to the determination selectively converts these color palettes to color palettes having a lower number of colors for said images. Then, an implementation transmits the documents having these converted color palettes. There is also a storage device in the document transmission path intermediate the sources and the receiving display stations for storing the documents having the converted color palettes with a lower number of colors for the images.

Abstract: In one aspect, a method for comparing suppliers includes sending survey questions for receipt by supplier computer systems. Programming instructions are also sent for receipt and execution by the supplier computer systems. The programming instructions are for causing the supplier computer systems to return supplier survey answers to a server. The answers are included in responding documents and are defined in a certain format as data elements included in the responding documents. The data elements are then parsed from the responding documents responsive to predetermined programming instructions and evaluated the data elements responsive to a predetermined set of rules.

Abstract: A comprehensive method for coordinating cellular phones in a residential area to obviate the need for wired residential service. The present invention includes coordinating a set of wireless devices in a residential area to be able to receive a call directed to a user's cellular telephone. Said wireless devices can have different numbers and be serviced by different providers than the user's cellular telephone. Peer-to-peer relationships are formed between associated wireless communications devices, similar to IEEE 802.11 peer-to-peer relationships. A call could also be answered by another cellular telephone, or other device, such as a computer. All communicating handsets of associated wireless communications devices could join the call. The present invention would prevent a user from missing any incoming calls while at the user's residence.
