Abstract: An application for a device or television has a detector capable of determining the location of a viewer in a range of the device or television. In response to the viewer coming within a pre-determined distance of the device/television, a touch-screen user interface is presented for the viewer to interact using a touch-screen interface integrated into a display of the device.

Abstract: A display system for displaying images for an information handling system is disclosed. The display system comprises a housing having a power input and a video signal-receiving connector. A screen is configured to display images based upon a video signal received at the video signal-receiving connector. A processor is configured to cause images to be displayed on the screen. A persistent memory is accessible by the processor. The memory includes a program of instructions for execution by the processor that is configured to cause the screen to display a product tour. The display system includes an initiator configured to initiate the execution of the program of instructions by the processor to display images on the screen, and the initiator may be configured to initiate execution of the program when power is present at the power input and when no signal is detected as being received at the signal receiving connector.

Abstract: A method of displaying information on a video display monitor is disclosed, and comprises receiving a command to display an on-screen display (OSD) menu, determining an origin of the command to display the OSD menu, if the command originated from an actuation of a control on the video display monitor, then generating and displaying a first OSD menu, and if the command originated from an actuation of a control on a remote control device, then generating and displaying a second OSD menu. The first OSD menu and the second OSD menu are different.

Abstract: A method of providing an indication to a user of a status of an updating process of a video display monitor is disclosed. The method comprising receiving a set of instructions by the video display monitor, loading the set of instructions into a memory of the video display monitor, detecting a status of the loading of the set of instructions into the memory of the video display monitor, generating an indication of the status of the loading of the set of instructions into the memory of the video display monitor, and displaying the indication of the status of the loading of the set of instructions by the video display monitor.

Means are provided for analog analysis of bar code label contrast levels, and for derivation of new, instructive indices characterizing the readability and print quality. Additionally, a new method for determination of absolute bar code label dimensions is disclosed. The method of calibration for arbitrary scanning distance and angle standardizes not only the verifier's ability to measure absolute dimensions at unknown distances, but also its ability to discern contrast under arbitrary lighting conditions and scanning equipment. This is accomplished by employing calibration standards of known characteristics. Bar code verification information may be stored and/or employed for a variety of control and analytical functions as recognized in the art.
