Date of Patent: August 24, 2021
    Assignee: Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation
Inventors: Timothy Arn Goodrich, Eric W. Karlen, Mark W. Metzler
  • Patent number: 10981667
Abstract: A generator control unit includes a plurality of permanent magnet generator (PMG) inputs, a transformer including a multi-configuration input winding and at least one output winding. Each PMG input in the plurality of PMG inputs is connected to the multi-configuration input winding at a corresponding input winding input.

  • Patent number: 10840004
Abstract: A magnetic core for inductor includes a first core segment, a second core segment spaced apart from the first core segment by a gap, and a spacer. The spacer is arranged within the gap and between the first core segment and the second core segment. The spacer includes a semi-conductive material to limit arc radius of magnetic flux lines communicated between the first core segment and the second core segment outside the gap. Inductors, flyback transformers and transformer rectifier units, and power conversion methods are also described.

  • Patent number: 9229459
Abstract: A system for controlling saturation of a magnetic core of a transformer includes a transformer control circuit, a Hall sensor, and a processor. The transformer control circuit is configured to provide cycles of bidirectional excitation to the transformer at a first frequency and a first duty cycle. The Hall sensor is configured to output a first field value of the magnetic core during a first half-cycle of each of the cycles of bidirectional excitation and a second field value during a second half-cycle of each of the cycles of bidirectional excitation. The processor is configured to increase the first duty cycle to a second duty cycle in response to a magnitude of the first field value exceeding a first threshold magnitude. The processor is further configured to increase the first frequency to a second frequency in response to both the magnitude of the first field value exceeding the first threshold magnitude and the magnitude of the second field value exceeding a second threshold magnitude.

  • Publication number: 20130187741
Abstract: A ferromagnetic core includes a ferromagnetic center portion including a plurality of legs each receptive of a conductive winding. The plurality of legs extend from a common center point and are equally angularly spaced. A ferromagnetic outer ring is positioned around the center portion at an outer radial extent of the plurality of legs. A transformer includes a transformer core having a center portion. The center portion includes a plurality of legs extending from a common center point. The plurality of legs are equally angularly spaced. An outer ring is positioned around the center portion at an outer radial extent of the plurality of legs. A conductive winding is located at each leg.
