Patent number: 10199725Abstract: Systems and related methods for reducing passive intermodulation (PIM) include a combination of an antenna control unit (ACU) and a remote electrical tilt (RET) system. The ACU may be used to generate rotational motion of an output drive shaft in response to an input tilt control signal. The RET system couples to the output drive shaft of the ACU and may be used to convert the rotational motion into translational motion for modifying a phase shift of an antenna beam. PIM may be substantially eliminated by providing electrical isolation between the ACU and RET system in the form of a non-conductive connector that engages the draft shaft of the ACU.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2013Date of Patent: February 5, 2019Inventors: Asaad R. Elsaadani, Timothy Bernhardt, Peter A. Casey, Chenguang Zhou, Peng Cui, Gaetan G. F. Fauquert, Eric Callec

Patent number: 9979101Abstract: Corrosion within a flangeless connector, or at an associated connection of a device or medium (e.g., cable), used in a wireless base station may be reduced by incorporating a seating member, e.g., an O-ring, between the connector and a connector port. Conductive plating selectively applied within the connector port may provide a low-resistance ground connection between the port and the connector, while a non-conductive coating selectively applied to a surface against which the seating member is seated may form a weather-tight seal. The connection between the connector and the connector port is thereby protected from moisture, while exposed surfaces of the connector port re protected by the non-conductive coating.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2017Date of Patent: May 22, 2018Assignee: Nokia Shanghai BellInventors: Yin-Shing Chong, Timothy Bernhardt

Patent number: 9450285Abstract: The apparatus includes a base having a hole in a top surface, a fastener having a longitudinal section with the longitudinal section extending into the hole, and a shell. The shell has a connecting section connecting a first lateral surface section and a second lateral surface section. At least a portion of the first lateral surface section extends into the hole. The second lateral surface section extends away from the top surface of the base. The connecting section is disposed between the top surface of the base and a portion of the fastener. The connecting section has a first section and a second section, and the first section has a non-linear cross-section. The apparatus further includes a washer disposed between the portion of the fastener and the connecting section, and a portion of the washer engages the first section of the connecting section.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2014Date of Patent: September 20, 2016Assignee: ALCATEL-LUCENT SHANGHAI BELL CO., LTDInventors: Yin-Shing Chong, Jari Taskila, Timothy Bernhardt

Publication number: 20160268726Abstract: Corrosion within a flangeless connector, or at an associated connection of a device or medium (e.g., cable), used in a wireless base station may be reduced by incorporating a recessed portion in an outer surface of a body of the flangeless connector. The recessed portion helps retain a seating member, such as a deformable O-ring, to prevent water and other environmental material from seeping into the connector or connection. Further, inner surfaces of a port of a device that receives the flangeless connector may be covered with a conductive plating, while outer surfaces of the port may be covered with a non-conductive coating.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 12, 2015Publication date: September 15, 2016Applicant: Radio Frequency Systems, Inc.Inventors: Yin-shing Chong, Timothy Bernhardt

Patent number: 9240261Abstract: Multi-conductor cables for telecommunication systems include a plurality of fiber-optic conductors and/or power conductors extending within an outer jacket in a main body portion of the cable, and extending outside of the outer jacket in a break-out portion of the cable. A break-out boot may be attached to the outer jacket and may surround the conductors in a break-out portion of the cable. Potting material may be provided in the break-out boot within spaces between adjacent conductors to provide innovative sealing of the break-out portion.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2013Date of Patent: January 19, 2016Assignee: ALCATEL-LUCENT SHANGHAI BELL CO., LTDInventors: Timothy Bernhardt, Yin-Shing Chong

Patent number: 8810339Abstract: An assembly and method relates to stabilizing a radio frequency (RF) filter with respect to a housing. The assembly can include a filter component; a housing having a groove to receive the filter component; a cover mounted to the housing to cover the groove; and an elastomeric element disposed between the cover and the filter. The elastomeric element may be one or more tubular pieces.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2011Date of Patent: August 19, 2014Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Timothy Bernhardt, Yin-Shing Chong, Yunchi Zhang

Patent number: 8797124Abstract: Various exemplary embodiments relate to a support assembly for a planar filter. The assembly includes a u-shaped housing with angled surfaces at the inner corners of the u-shape, a first dielectric plate having a first angled surface in contact with one of the angled surfaces of the housing, a second dielectric plate having a second angled surface in contact with the other angled surface of the housing, at least one compressible ring, and a cover. The planar filter is supported between the first dielectric plate and the second dielectric plate. The cover compresses the compressible ring to apply downward force on the first and second dielectric plates. The downward force is translated to an inward force by the angled surfaces of the housing. The angled surfaces of the housing apply an inward force on the first dielectric plate and the second dielectric plate.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2011Date of Patent: August 5, 2014Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Timothy Bernhardt, Jari Taskila, Yunchi Zhang
