  • Patent number: 7867290
Abstract: Methods are provided to suitably impregnate low surface energy separator materials with polar electrolyte in an electrolytic capacitor. Backfilling methods overcome the high contact angles exhibited by polar electrolytes on porous hydrophobic separators, forcing the electrolyte into the separator pores, thereby sufficiently impregnating the separator disposed between two electrodes within the capacitor assembly. Methods enable use of separators sans surfactant or surface modifications to improve wetting.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 12, 2009
Date of Patent: January 11, 2011
    Assignee: Medtronic, Inc.

  • Publication number: 20070253673
Abstract: An optical feedthrough assembly is provided that is configured to be disposed through the canister of an implantable medical device. The optical feedthrough assembly comprises a ferrule having an aperture therethrough and an inner surface therethrough. An optical fiber passes through the aperture, and a compression seal stack is disposed within the aperture and around the optical fiber. The compression seal stack sealingly engages the optical fiber and the inner surface.

  • Publication number: 20070234557
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for forming a seal within a ferrule having a compression ring disposed therein. The apparatus comprises a frame assembly for crimping a portion of the ferrule, and a push rod assembly coupled to the frame assembly. The push rod assembly is capable of independent articulation with respect to the frame assembly and is configured to compress the compression ring within the ferrule.

  • Publication number: 20070231681
Abstract: An electrochemical cell of an implantable medical device is provided. The electrochemical cell comprises a conductive case and a cover welded to the case to form a hermetically-sealed housing. A cathode is disposed adjacent to a surface of the case within the hermetically-sealed housing and an anode is disposed within the hermetically-sealed housing. An immobilization system is disposed between the anode and the hermetically-sealed housing. The immobilization system is configured to minimize movement of the anode relative to the housing and is adapted to thermally insulate the anode during fabrication of the hermetically-sealed housing.

  • Publication number: 20070068997
Abstract: A cold weld is formed in a multilayer material. A first pin is coupled to a first block. A second pin is coupled to a second block. The multilayer material is disposed between the first pin and the second pin. The first pin opposes the second pin. The multilayer material is held in the XY plane and floats in the Z axis.
