Publication number: 20020190868Abstract: A system and method for displaying status information from several devices in a computer system is disclosed. A primary status indicator is associated with a server or a group of servers. The primary status indicator is communicatively coupled to the server management software that is monitoring the server or server group. During the period that the server management software does not detect a failure or an imminent failure in any component of the server or server group, the primary status indicator will be illuminated to reflect a normal operating status. If the server management software detects a failure or an imminent failure in a component of the server or a server in the server group, the primary status indicator will be illuminated to reflect an alert status.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 7, 2001Publication date: December 19, 2002Applicant: DELL PRODUCTS, L.P.Inventors: Timothy C. Patent number: 6494070Abstract: A keylock cover for an electronic system housing such as a computer system housing. The keylock cover is movably coupled to the housing to move between an open position where the keylock is exposed, to a closed position where the keylock is hidden from view. The keylock cover may be secured in a closed position with a push-push latch mounted in the housing. The keylock cover may include a key retainer that retains a key that is compatible with the keylock to the keylock cover. Computer system identification information such as vender names or product names can be located on the outer side of the keylock cover. In one example, the keylock cover is movably coupled to a bezel of the electronic system housing.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1999Date of Patent: December 17, 2002Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: David L. Patent number: 6282087Abstract: An assembly including a slot in a peripheral device carrier and a tab in a housing for peripheral devices, the assembly providing a structure for retaining compatible peripheral devices in a computer system, and for preventing damage to connectors when an attempt is made to install an incompatible peripheral device. The peripheral devices include a first connector portion for electronically coupling the peripheral device to a processor in a computer system. The peripheral device is installed in the peripheral device carrier that includes a slotted side member and a front member. The slot may be located at one end of the side member, or the side member may be shortened or truncated to avoid the tab when the device carrier is inserted. The side member is attached to the front member thereby forming a portion of a frame for receiving the peripheral device. The housing includes a bay having a second connector portion and at least one opening for receiving the peripheral device carrier.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1998Date of Patent: August 28, 2001Assignee: Dell USA, L.P.Inventors: Clifford A. Gibbons, Timothy C. Dearborn

Patent number: 6279754Abstract: A releasable latching apparatus and method of operation for securing a component of a computer system to a computer housing. The latching apparatus includes a casing and a shaft integrated with the casing such that the shaft is operable to move relative to the casing. Incorporated into the latching apparatus is a collet that extends along the shaft. The collet includes a locking portion, which can releasably secure a computer component to a housing by extending away from the shaft and capturing an element of the computer housing.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1999Date of Patent: August 28, 2001Assignee: Dell USA, L.P.Inventors: Shawn P. Hoss, Timothy C. Dearborn

Patent number: 6144549Abstract: A flat panel display (FPD) module can be mounted into a peripheral device bay of a computer system. The peripheral device bay of a convertible computer system is rotatable, allowing the FPD module to be mounted in a horizontal orientation regardless of the computer system's orientation. Additionally, the FPD panel of the module is rotatable so that the panel can be pivoted into an orientation convenient for viewing. The FPD module includes a sled having a front panel and a pair of opposing side panels, the front panel and side panels defining an interior portion. An FPD panel, such as a liquid crystal display (LCD), is mounted in a frame rotatably coupled to the sled. At least one mounting feature is located on one of the side panels for mounting the module into a peripheral device bay.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1998Date of Patent: November 7, 2000Assignee: Dell USA, L.P.Inventors: David L. Moss, Timothy C. Dearborn

Patent number: 5803237Abstract: The pushbutton switch of the present invention includes one or more normally open contact switches and a moveable base plate having a handle and moveable to either a disabled or an operational position by a force applied to the handle. One or more pushbuttons are included wherein each pushbutton is individually depressable to operate a respective one of said normally open contact switches to a closed condition when the moveable base plate is in the operational position. A cover plate having apertures corresponding to the pushbuttons and to the handle of the moveable base plate is included wherein the pushbuttons and the handle are accessible through the apertures. Two or more fasteners are used to slideably couple the moveable base plate to the cover plate. One or more detents are used to hold the moveable base plate in either the disabled or the operational position.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1996Date of Patent: September 8, 1998Inventors: Jerry D. Patent number: 5337525Abstract: A rail system is used for supporting a plurality of upper and lower modular wall panels adjacent a plurality of spaced apart studs. In one aspect of the invention, the rail system includes an upper rail mounted horizontally to the studs adjacent a ceiling, a lower rail mounted horizontally to the studs adjacent an abutting surface such as a floor, bathtub, or shower pan, and a middle rail mounted horizontally to the studs between the lower and upper rails. Each rail is mountable to the studs regardless of the distance therebetween. The upper rail is adapted to receive an upper portion of the upper wall panels, the lower rail is adapted to receive a lower portion of the lower wall panels, and the middle rail is adapted to receive the upper and lower panels. In another aspect of the invention, an elongated bar is spaced apart from the middle rail and adapted to be mounted longitudinally thereto.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1993Date of Patent: August 16, 1994Assignee: Herman Miller, Inc.Inventors: Gianfranco Zaccai, Arthur S. Patent number: 5243716Abstract: A barrier-free drainage apparatus includes a trough positioned adjacent the front edge of a platform. The trough has a bottom wall which is positioned below the front edge of the platform, and at least one outlet opening in fluid flow communication with a drain pipe. A grate is positioned inside the trough and has an upper, generally horizontal portion with a plurality of apertures therethrough. The upper portion is supported such each that said upper portion is spaced apart from the trough bottom wall in a generally horizontal position and a top surface of the upper portion is substantially the same height as the front edge of the platform. Another aspect of the invention is the configuration of the outlet openings. A plurality of spaced apart, elongated insert receptacles depend from the bottom wall. The insert receptacles have side wall means and a horizontal base which define a cavity, and each base has two spaced apart outlet openings therein adjacent opposing ends of the base.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1991Date of Patent: September 14, 1993Assignee: Herman Miller, Inc.Inventors: Gianfranco D.
