  • Publication number: 20210347404
Abstract: A steering column assembly includes a lower jacket having a bridge proximate a forward end of the lower jacket, the bridge defining a slot. The assembly also includes an upper jacket in telescoping engagement with the lower jacket. The steering column assembly further includes a telescope actuator assembly. The steering column assembly yet further includes a telescope drive bracket operatively coupled to, and translated by, the telescope actuator assembly, the telescope drive bracket having a base portion coupled to the upper jacket to move the upper jacket in a telescope direction relative to the lower jacket. The steering column assembly also includes a plate coupled to an outer surface of the upper jacket and disposed between the base portion of the telescope drive bracket and the upper jacket, the plate having a retention feature positioned to contact the bridge of the lower jacket to define a rearward telescope limit.

  • Patent number: 7229097
Abstract: The invention provides a snap-in capsule for releasibly connecting a steering column to a vehicle. The snap-in capsule includes a metal insert for reducing creep of the steering column with respect to the vehicle. The metal insert has top and bottom surfaces and a slot extending along an axis for receiving a bolt. The snap-in capsule also includes a plastic capsule body for providing a mechanical fuse between the metal insert and the steering column. The plastic capsule body has a first snap-fit portion being deformable to receive the metal insert and fix the plastic capsule body and the metal insert with respect to one another.

  • Patent number: 6578449
Abstract: The snap-on steering column shroud assembly includes an upper shroud and a lower shroud. The upper shroud has an upper steering shaft passage portion that is positioned vertically, axially and angularly relative to the upper steering shaft. A front edge is moved toward the steering column to move upper shroud cantilever snap fasteners into engagement with the steering column. Force is applied manually to force the upper shroud snap fasteners into a retaining position. A lower shroud is aligned with the upper shroud by alignment posts and alignment post receivers and then raised into contact with the steering column. Lower shroud cantilevered snap fasteners are manually forced into a lower shroud retaining position on the steering column. Snap connectors and snap receivers connect the upper shroud to the lower shroud.
