Patent number: 7513781Abstract: An improved heating element connector assembly includes an insulative, rectangular frame with a central opening, and a plurality of conductive terminals which are press fit into openings in the frame. The terminals are spaced apart from each other lengthwise of two opposing sidewalls of the frame, and pairs of terminals are aligned with each other between the two sidewalls. A plurality of conductive strips are held together in an assembly and the ends of the strips are interconnected along two spaced apart lines by carrier members that may be molded over the ends of the conductive strips. The carrier members extend down into cavities on the frame and terminals are pushed into the cavities to bear against the ends of the strips and effect an electrical connection between the terminals and the strips.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2006Date of Patent: April 7, 2009Assignees: Molex Incorporated, Alexza Pharmaceuticals, Inc.Inventors: Charles Galauner, Gregory Menn, Richard A. Nelson, Hazelton P. Avery, Timothy E. Purkis, Richard A. Faje, Ryan D. Timmons, Andrew J.G. Kelly, Martin J. Wensley

The terminals are spaced apart from each other lengthwise of two opposing sidewalls of the frame, and pairs of terminals are aligned with each other between the two sidewalls. A plurality of conductive strips extend across the frame opening to interconnect the pairs of terminals together. The terminals include compliant pin tail portions for receipt by corresponding holes formed in a circuit board of the assembly and deformable head portions for crimping onto the conductive strips.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2006Date of Patent: February 24, 2009Assignees: Molex Incorporated, Alexza Pharmaceuticals, Inc.Inventors: Charles Galauner, Gregory Menn, Richard A. Patent number: 7001189Abstract: An electrical power connector is mountable on a printed circuit board. The connector includes an outer terminal and an inner terminal, both of which are of generally inverted U-shaped configurations, with the inner terminal nested in the outer terminal. Solder tails project downwardly from bottom edges of side walls of the two terminals. Both terminals have a pair of blade portions projecting forwardly from the respective side walls of the terminals, whereby the blade portions of each terminal are spaced from each other. The blade portions of one terminal are generally coplanar with the blade portions of the other terminal. A dielectric housing is overmolded about the side walls of the outer terminal, leaving the solder tails and the outside surfaces of the blade portions exposed. The housing has a projecting portion extending into the spacing between the blade portions of the two terminals against the inside surfaces of the blade portions, leaving the outside surfaces of the blade portions exposed.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2004Date of Patent: February 21, 2006Assignee: Molex IncorporatedInventors: Daniel B. McGowan, Steven B. Bogiel, William P. Hendrickson, Arvind Patel, Timothy E. Purkis

Patent number: 6722898Abstract: An improved termination assembly for multiple grounds of a multi-wire cable is disclosed. The assembly includes a U-shaped retention clip that engages with a termination portion of a ground terminal housed in a connector housing. The clip has at least one notch formed in an edge thereof which is used to locate a drain, or ground, wire in place on the clip in position for soldering the drain wire to the clip. The termination portion may be provided with an opening aligned with one of the notches of the clip so that two drain wires of the cable may be oriented above the signal wires of the cables in similar positions to impose a measure of mechanical uniformity on the termination.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2002Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: Molex IncorporatedInventors: Kirk B. Peloza, Yew Teck Yap, Timothy E. Purkis, Jose H. Chavez, Jr.

Patent number: 6453552Abstract: A method of manufacturing electrical terminals and/or a terminal module is disclosed. The method includes the steps of stamping from a sheet of metal material a blank for a plurality of elongated terminals having contact portions at one end and terminal portions at the other end and joining the terminals by a tie bar intermediate the ends. The contact portions of the respective terminals are separated from each other by the stamping step. The terminal portions remain joined in the sheet of metal after the stamping step. The blank then is sheared to separate the terminal portions. The tie bar is cut to separate the terminals. In order to form a terminal module, a dielectric housing is overmolded about the terminals intermediate the ends thereof, with the tie bar being located outside the housing and removed after the overmolding process.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1998Date of Patent: September 24, 2002Assignee: Molex IncorporatedInventors: Jose H. Chavez, Jr., Gary M. Comstock, Arvind Patel, Timothy E. Purkis, Yew Teck Yap

Patent number: 6299487Abstract: A connector is formed with a metal shell for use as a shield of the connector. The shell has a pair of tab members formed along its front face that are stamped to provide two metal contact points. These tabs are engaged by metal contact arms formed on a shield of an opposing connector. The metal to metal contact that results from the tab members decreases wear and abrasion and also serves as a conductive connection between the two connector shields.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2000Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Assignee: Molex IncorporatedInventors: John E. Lopata, Kirk B. Peloza, Yew Teck Yap, Timothy E. Purkis, Jose H. Chavez, Jr.
