  • Patent number: 8854255
Abstract: An airborne moving target indicating (MTI) radar includes an array antenna. A receive processor electronically multiplies the signals received by each antenna element by element enable/disable signals which vary from time to time, thus electronically moving the effective phase center of the antenna array. The motion of the phase center is matched to the moving vehicle speed and direction.

  • Patent number: 8345716
Abstract: An antenna array includes pairs of antenna elements, each responsive to mutually orthogonal first and second polarizations for producing streams of analog signals. The number of transceivers is halved by time-division multiplexing the analog signals onto a single path and transceiving the stream in that path. The transceived analog signals are digitized, to produce streams of digital samples, alternate ones of which represent the first and second polarizations. Alternate samples of the stream of digitized signals represent the analog received first and second polarizations. Simple processing identifies the polarization of the received signals, and can be used for weather evaluation or for polarimetric identification.

  • Patent number: 7864532
Abstract: An array of electrically conductive waveguides is made a method including defining slots in broad surfaces of planar dielectric slabs. The surfaces of the slabs, including slots, are metallized. The broad sides of the slabs are juxtaposed, with the slots registered with the planar surfaces of another slab, to form one or more closed waveguides. The waveguides may feed microchips, or act as antennas. The slabs may include electrical conductors andor heat pipes. Heat pipes are made by defining apertures with the dielectric slabs, and introducing wick material into the apertures.

  • Patent number: 7492313
Abstract: A radar system array antenna includes plural elements. Each element is coupled to a port of a transmit-receive device. Digital data representing the characteristics of the radar signal is applied to a monolithic IC combination DAC/ADC, which converts the digital data into analog transmit signal. The analog transmit signal is applied to a monolithic microwave IC transceiver, which may be monolithic with the DAC/ADC. The transceiver upconverts the transmit signal. The upconverted transmit signal is applied to a transmit port of the transmit-receive device and transmitted. Receive RF signal is coupled from each antenna element through the transmit-receive device to a receive signal port of the transceiver. The transceiver downconverts the receive signal to produce received downconverted signal. The downconverted signal is coupled to the ADC part of the DAC/ADC, which converts to receive digital signal. Digital processing processes the receive digital signal to produce the return target information.

  • Patent number: 7363701
Abstract: An encapsulated heat pipe is made by placing a removable elongated solid partially within a mold, filling the mold with a solid dielectric material, and removing the elongated solid from the dielectric material defining an elongated cavity that extends within the solid dielectric material. Next, a wick material is inserted into the periphery of the elongated cavity, then a coolant liquid is inserted into the elongated cavity and the open end of the elongated cavity is sealed.
