  • Patent number: 4195116
Abstract: Coating compositions comprising an alkylated urea-formaldehyde resin and a polymethylol cyclohexane, which are useful for low temperature cure and are low in viscosity to allow ease of coating without the need for appreciable amounts of solvent thinners. The alkylated urea-formaldehyde condensates have an average degree of condensation of about 3 or less and a combined urea:formaldehyde:alcohol ratio in the range of about 1:2-3:1-2.5. The compositions may be cured in the presence of acid catalysts in the temperature range of 70 to 105.degree. C., and are particularly useful for coating paper, cloth and wood substrates.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 15, 1978
Date of Patent: March 25, 1980
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
Inventors: George J. Anderson, J. Owen Santer, Timothy F. Desmond
  • Patent number: 4190700
Abstract: Coating compositions comprising an alkylated urea-formaldehyde resin, a polymethylolcyclohexane and a polyoxypropylene polyol which are useful for low temperature cure and are low in viscosity to allow ease of coating without the need for appreciable amounts of solvent thinners. • Patent number: 4130692
Abstract: Coating compositions comprising alkoxymethylaminotriazines, polyols and polyether triols which are useful for low temperature cure, are low in viscosity to allow ease of coating without the need for appreciable amounts of solvent thinners, and provide coatings free from the problems of crawling, cratering, pinholing and "orange peel" formation. The alkoxymethylaminotriazines are preferably alkoxymethylmelamines. The polyols are polymethylol compounds in which oxygen atoms are separated by at least three carbon atoms of an aliphatic or alicyclic chain. The compositions may be cured in the presence of acid catalysts in the temperature range of 70.degree. to 105.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4129681
Abstract: Coating compositions comprising alkoxymethylaminotriazines, polyols and polyhydroxy oligomers which are useful for low temperature cure, are low in viscosity to allow ease of coating without the need for appreciable amounts of solvent thinners, and provide coatings free from the problems of crawling, cratering, pinholing and "orange peel" formation. The alkoxymethylaminotriazines are preferably alkoxymethylmelamines. The polyols are polymethylol cyclohexanes containing from 2 to 4 methylol groups. The polyhydroxy oligomers are polyesters or acrylic resins. The compositions may be cured in the presence of acid catalysts in the temperature range of 70.degree. to 105.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4119762
Abstract: Coating compositions comprising alkoxymethylaminotriazines and polyols, which are useful for low temperature cure, are low in viscosity to allow ease of coating without the need for appreciable amounts of solvent thinners, and provide coatings free from the problems of crawling, cratering, pin-holing and "orange peel" formation. The alkoxymethylaminotriazines are preferably alkoxymethylmelamines. The polyols are polymethylol compounds containing an alicyclic or branched aliphatic structure. The compositions may be cured in the presence of acid catalysts in the temperature range of 70 to 105.degree. C.
