Patent number: 7440486Abstract: A spread spectrum noise shaper uses a modulation technique to achieve a greater signal-to-noise or signal-to-interference ratio (SNR or SIR). The technique doubles the system SIR, in principle. This doubling yields a doubling in system capacity. SNR is increased by receiving the spread spectrum signal in the presence of less noise near the edge of the spread spectrum bandwidth. The technique requires only small additions to a conventional spread spectrum system, in the form of an extra modulator at the transmitter, and an extra demodulator and filter at the receiver.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2006Date of Patent: October 21, 2008Assignee: Interdigital Technology CorporationInventor: Timothy F. Moore, III

Publication number: 20080242367Abstract: A spread spectrum base station comprises an automatic gain control (AGC) circuit having an input configured to receive a received spread spectrum signal and gain control the received spread spectrum signal to produce a gain controlled signal. A correlation circuit has an input configured to receive the gain controlled signal and correlate the gain controlled signal with a code to produce a despread signal. A power measurement and comparator circuit is configured to receive the despread signal and a control level of the AGC circuit. The circuit processes at least the despread signal and the control level to produce a processed signal and compares the processed signal with a threshold to produce a comparison signal. The comparison signal is used to produce a power command. A multiplexer multiplexes the power command with a signal for transmission over an antenna.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 9, 2008Publication date: October 2, 2008Applicant: INTERDIGITAL TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: Donald L. Patent number: 6226316Abstract: A system and method for adaptive-power control of a spread-spectrum transmitter of a mobile station operating in a cellular-communications network using spread-spectrum modulation. A mobile station transmits a first spread-spectrum signal. A base station has an automatic-gain-control circuit for generating an AGC-output signal, from a received signal. The received signal includes the first spread-spectrum signal and an interfering signal. The base station also has a correlator for despreading the AGC-output signal, a power-measurement circuit responsive to processing the received signal with the despread AGC-output signal for generating a received-power level, a comparator coupled to the power-measurement circuit for generating a comparison signal by comparing the received-power level to a threshold level, a transmitter for transmitting a second spread-spectrum signal, and an antenna.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1998Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignee: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Donald L.
