  • Patent number: 6919654
Abstract: A linear motor is provided which includes members for engaging a magnet rail to prevent bending of the magnet rail. Such members may include a wheel or sliding block, for example. The members exert a force proximate an upper edge of the magnet rail to counter potential bending of the magnet rail during operation of the motor, and thereby avoid substantial variations in the air gaps. Furthermore, an armature yoke is provided which includes at least one partial tooth at one end of the armature yoke for reducing an end effect cogging of the linear motor armature in relation to a magnet rail along which the armature will run. In addition, an armature yoke is provided which includes multiple segments which are held end-to-end via fasteners. Such fasteners may serve as part of the magnetic flux path. A support strip may be provided to reduce bowing.

  • Patent number: 4873462
Abstract: A synchronous motor having peripheral teeth on the rotor magnetized by a permanent magnet and radially inwardly projecting, electromagnetically energized stator teeth. The rotor teeth and stator teeth are skewed relative to each other. The annular arc length subtended by the skew as projected on the cylindrical peripheral envelope of the rotor teeth equals the arc length corresponding to the angular pitch of the rotor teeth divided by an integer between two and four. Each of the rotor teeth projects upon two adjacent stator teeth, and/or each of the stator teeth projects upon two adjacent rotor teeth.

  • Patent number: 4772815
Abstract: A rotational position transducer comprising a rotor having annularly spaced teeth and a stator with a pole face configuration comprising annularly spaced teeth opposing the rotor teeth. One or more pole windings are energized by an alternate current source, and one or more output voltages induced in pole windings are produced with components having a characteristic which varies as a function of the angular position of the rotor relative to the stator. The output voltages may be either amplitude or phase modulated as a function of rotor position. The transducer may be combined with a stepping motor having an identical pole configuration.

  • Patent number: 4306589
Abstract: An electromagnetically controlled pneumatic valve includes a chamber having a first nozzle of magnetic material in opposed relation to a second nonmagnetic nozzle. A cylindrical, permanent magnet, valve member may become seated upon one or the other of the nozzles in response to an electromagnetic field generated by a coil surrounding the first nozzle. A conduit from the chamber between the nozzles connects to a pneumatic load such as an air tool.
