  • Patent number: 11527942
Abstract: A dual-wound machine comprises a dual-wound generator supplying power to two separate powered zones. The generator comprises a wound rotor with a field winding and a stator with two sets of phase windings and a field control loop that controls the excitation voltage applied to the field winding and therefore the magnetic field produced by the rotor, in order to maintain a constant field flux in the generator and mitigate dynamic coupling between the two sets of phase windings when supplying power to unbalanced loads.

  • Patent number: 9926912
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for estimating an overall wind coherence acting on a wind turbine and using same to dynamically adapt the gain or bandwidth of pitch or torque or yaw control logic within a wind turbine. The method includes generating, via sensors, a plurality of sensor signals reflective of wind conditions near the wind turbine. The method also includes filtering, via at least one filter, the sensor signals at a predetermined frequency range considered damaging for turbine sub-system loading. Thus, the method also includes estimating an overall damaging wind coherence acting on the wind turbine as a function of distance-normalized wind coherences, which themselves are derived from auto and cross-covariances of pairs of filtered signals. The distance normalization uses a model of natural coherence dissipation with distance.

  • Publication number: 20120304911
Abstract: A dynamic anchoring system for use in stabilizing a floating platform is provided. The dynamic anchoring system includes a mooring assembly having a plurality of rodes each with an adjustable length. As waves cause the platform to rock, the length of each rode is adjusted in a manner to counteract the motion created by the waves. Thus, the platform remains substantially level. The platform supports a wind turbine on a mast. At least one motion sensor on the mast provides motion data indication the direction and speed of the hull's motion.

  • Publication number: 20100014969
Abstract: A wind turbine or rotor load control compensates for moment imbalance in a wind turbine that includes a rotor having at least two variable pitch blades. The apparatus includes a conventional pitch command logic developing a nominal rotor blade pitch command signal and a moment sensor. The moment sensor can be one or more of a nacelle overturning moment sensor, and a turning moment sensor. An output of this is used as a moment signal. Conversion logic is connected to the moment signal with an output of the conversion logic being calculated individual pitch modulation commands for each of the blades. A combining logic is connected to receive the calculated individual blade pitch modulation commands and to receive a nominal pitch command. An output of the combining logic is individual combined blade pitch commands for each of the blades.

  • Patent number: 7497865
Abstract: A ring for use in anastomosis. Preferably, the ring is integrally formed from metal, and includes a ring portion and tines and docking members that extend from the ring portion. The ring portion and tines are malleable, and preferably also the docking members are malleable. The ring portion and tines are malleable in the sense that once deformed from a first shape into a second shape, they will not relax back into the first shape from the second. To install the ring in a vessel with the ring portion extending around an incision or other orifice, the tines pierce the tissue around the orifice and are curled against an anvil. The action of curling the tines inverts the tissue near the orifice edges to expose the inside surface of the vessel or organ.

  • Patent number: 6949114
Abstract: Systems and methods convey a closure material into a catheter to seal a puncture site in a blood vessel. The closure material comprises a mixture of first and second components which, upon mixing, undergo a reaction to form a solid closure material composition. The systems and methods assure ease of delivery and effective mixing of the components to create an in situ barrier at the puncture site.

  • Publication number: 20040002721
Abstract: An element for use in anastomosis and a method and apparatus for installing the element (having tines that extend from a central portion) at the open end of a blood vessel (or other tubular body structure). To install an embodiment of the element; a carriage holds the element and shields the tines, the vessel's open end is passed through the shielded element and fitted over an anvil, the tines are exposed, and the carriage is actuated to fire the element against the anvil so that the tines pierce the vessel and curl against the anvil (everting the tissue around the vessel's open end). The anvil preferably forms the vessel end portion into a hooded shape suitable for creating an anastomotic junction.

  • Patent number: 6053863
Abstract: Apparatus and method for expanding a perivascular cavity at a surgical site includes an elongated retractor having a tip at the distal end for convenient insertion into a perivascular cavity, and having a slidable coupler near the proximal end for convenient coupling to an elevator element supported in a retractor frame. The elongated retractor supports an endoscope thereon to facilitate visualization of surrounding tissue during insertion into the perivascular cavity. With the retractor inserted in the cavity, the retractor frame is positioned on the skin in alignment with and straddling the cavity, and the elevator element is selectively coupled to the retractor to elevate the retractor relative to the base of the retractor frame, thereby to expand or distend the cavity to provide ample access to tissues and vessels for surgical manipulations within the cavity.
