  • Publication number: 20100293961
Abstract: The system and method of the present invention provides stepping speed control of a gas turbine engine to reliably light-off a gas turbine engine. During starting, the speed of the gas turbine engine is incremented by stepped amounts through the light-off window from a minimum speed value to a maximum speed value, with the speed of the gas turbine dwelling at each stepped value for a period of time before incrementing the speed of the engine to the next stepped level. If the gas turbine engine is stepped through the entire light-off window without success, the controller decreases the speed of the gas turbine engine to the minimum value and begins the process again. The process continues until successful light-off is initiated or until the light-off window is traversed a certain number of times, after which the start process is aborted.

  • Patent number: 7531886
Abstract: A one-time programmable field effect transistor (FET) e-fuse has a silicided gate connected to the drain while the source is grounded. A voltage stimulus applied to the drain forces current to flow through the channel coupling the drain to the source. The magnitude of the current exceeding the threshold current density initiates electromigration of the source/drain silicide into the channel region, such that the source/drain of the FET is shorted to the substrate after programming. Under these constraints, the fuse device conducts current even when the transistor is in the off-state. The MOSFET e-fuse preferably uses a minimum channel length NFET/PFET and scales down its dimensions to conform to those allowed by the technology.

  • Publication number: 20040020206
Abstract: A power generation system includes a prime mover subsystem and a Rankine-cycle heat energy utilization subsystem. The waste heat stream from the prime mover subsystem provides sufficient thermal content to power the heat energy utilization subsystem. The heat energy utilization subsystem can include a hermetically sealed scroll device, which can expand the working fluid through a single or dual scroll pair configuration. The heat energy utilization subsystem may also include a load-splitting controller, quick-start features and a capacity control module to facilitate rapid response to variable load conditions, as well as provide stand-alone operational capability. The load-splitting controller may incorporate a fuzzy logic controller to coordinate operation between the two subsystems. Energy generated by the heat energy utilization subsystem can be in the form of heat for various domestic and process needs, or can provide supplemental electric current.

  • Patent number: 6464467
Abstract: An involute spiral wrap scroll-type device uses two pairs of spiral wrap members connected together at opposite ends of a common rotational shaft. The device can be operated in either an expansion mode or a combination hybrid mode where each pair of spiral wrap members functions as a compressor and expander, respectively. In an expansion mode, electric current is produced via generator electrically responsive to shaft rotation. In hybrid mode, a first spiral wrap member pair functions as an expander with the second spiral wrap member pair functioning as a compressor. In this mode, the balance of shaft power between that produced by the expander and that absorbed by the compressor is either supplied by the motor/generator functioning as a motor, or converted into electricity by the motor/generator functioning as a generator. The housing can be hermetically sealed, thus promoting contamination-free operation.

  • Patent number: 5684973
Abstract: An expandable memory system and a method for operating a memory system having a variable number of memory banks are described. The memory system can utilize a variable number of separately replaceable memory banks which can be implemented with memory element, such as dynamic random access memory chips, which are of differing speeds and or sizes. The memory system implements an interleaving of memory addresses among the memory banks as a function of the number of banks actually present so that successive memory accesses are not unnecessarily delayed by the recovery times of the memory elements. The memory system includes a programmable address decoder having a writable memory which provides bank address signals. Each of the banks includes a respective delay line for providing an output signal a respective presettable time after address signals are received by that bank for signalling to the host that data is ready to be transferred.

  • Patent number: 5388232
Abstract: A method for performing address and data transfers among a plurality of different units of a data processing system having a system bus which includes an address bus and a data bus. The system uses arbitration phase, address transfer phase, and data transfer phase operations which require the use of unique handshake signals at each phase so as to permit address and data transfers to occur on a suitable priority basis with respect to different ones of such units in a pipelined manner using non-multiplexed, asynchronous operations.

  • Patent number: 5375761
Abstract: A pizza box adapted to be broken down after use into pieces to facilitate disposal having top and bottom panels, each having front, rear, left side, and right side edges, a rear panel hingedly connecting the top and bottom panels together at their rear edges, and left side, right side, and front flaps at the left side, right side, and front edges of the top and bottom panels. At least one divider strip extends across at least the top and bottom panels, for dividing the top and the bottom panels into smaller component pieces for easier disposal. According to the method of this invention a pizza box is provided having at least one divider strip extending across at least the top and bottom panels, for dividing the top and the bottom panels into smaller component pieces for easier disposal. After use the divider strip is grasped and pulled to thereby divide the top and bottom panels into smaller component pieces for easier disposal.

  • Patent number: 5064637
Abstract: The present invention involves intradermal, percutaneous, parenteral, or enteral administration of a newly synthesized compound to detect, reduce, or eliminate the occurrence of allergic reactions to sulfonamides. The new compound is a substituted sulfonamide, the substituent being bound to the paraamino (4-position) group through an azo, amide, or other linkage. Because a purpose of the substituent is to make the new compound water soluble, it can take a variety of forms, but it must contain carbon and hydrogen, plus at least one of oxygen and nitrogen. Examples of usable substituents include imidazole, a carbohydrate, or an amino acid such as histidine, tyrosine, tryptophan, lysine, or tyrosine methyl ester; it may also be a synthetic polymer, polypeptde, polysaccharide, or an amino acid homopolymer.
