Abstract: A distance measuring system with a rotary laser generator and a laser detector. The rotary laser generator may rotate 360 degrees along a desired plane while emitting a rotating laser. The laser detector may be capable of detecting the rotating laser allowing the laser detector to be positioned along the same plane. Each detection of the rotating laser by the laser detector constitutes a pulse and the distance between the rotary laser generator and the laser detector may be calculated by the time measured between pulses. Additionally, the laser detector incorporates distance measuring technology providing the laser detector the capability to measure distances to surrounding objects. The laser detector also includes the ability to rotate so the laser detector may alternate from measuring the distance to a reference wall to the distance to the ground.

Abstract: A layout tool for scribing an arc includes an arm, a variable location pivot point arrangement on the arm, and a plurality of mark openings spaced from the pivot point arrangement. A position fixing member, such as a nail, is engaged with the pivot point arrangement to fix the position of the tool on a workpiece at a pivot point defined by the position fixing member. A marking instrument is engaged within one of the mark openings, and the tool is pivoted on the workpiece about the pivot point to make an arcuate mark on the workpiece at a radius defined by the location of the position fixing member relative to the mark opening within which the marking instrument is engaged. The tool may be a square, which is configured with two arms that extend away from each other at a predetermined angle.

Abstract: A level includes a level body having top, bottom and side walls, and a window that opens into the interior of the body. A vial is positioned within the window. The vial is carried by, and rotatable relative to, a vial mount. The vial mount and the level body include engagement structure that fixes the vial mount against movement relative to the level body. Securing members, such as screws, are movably carried by the vial mount, and are engageable with the vial in order to selectively adjust the angular position of the vial relative to the level body and to selectively fix the angular position of the vial relative to the vial mount, and thereby relative to the level body.
