Abstract: A diaper is woven with an unfolded width of greater than about 40 inches, and is then folded along not fewer than three warp-direction fold lines in such a way that the central panel of the folded diaper includes at least four superposed layers while each side panel includes only one or two superposed layers. The number of filling yarns per inch in the diaper is considerably reduced, as compared to conventional diapers, thus providing an increase in production speed and hence a reduction in production cost, without decreasing (and generally increasing) the total thread count per square inch in, and absorbency of, the central panel.

Abstract: An adhesive tape or the like is described comprising cotton warp yarns and textured polyester filler yarns having a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive disposed thereon. This invention includes the use of heavy denier textured polyester filler yarns because these yarns have the ability to spread out upon the application of pressure thereby filling the fabrics interstices thus preventing the adhesive that has been deposited on this backing fabric from penetrating through the fabric. The construction of the adhesive tape disclosed herein improve qualities such as the tear characteristics; flexibility; conformability; and blocking of the tape, while providing a tape that may be manufactured economically.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to woven gauze dressings known as laparotomy sponges or abdominal packs. More particularly It relates to laparotomy sponges produced with a structure that eliminates a considerable portion of the post-weaving sewing operations associated with prior art dressings of this type.

Abstract: Diapers are woven with a central panel comprising warp yarns which are a blend of hydrophobic fibers and hydrophilic fibers. Unlike yarns which are composed entirely of hydrophobic fibers, blended yarns of this type may be readily processed by conventional means through the slashing, weaving, and scouring processes. The central panel thus produced will, in use, remain dryer than panels composed entirely of hydrophilic yarns.

Abstract: The tear properties of flexible adhesive tapes comprising a pliable base and a low-count open meshed fabric adhered thereto by a layer of adhesive are improved by the use of so-called texturized or false-twist yarns in the filling of the fabric.
