  • Patent number: 11014849
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for ion exchanging glass articles. Methods for ion exchanging glass articles include receiving processing instructions from one or more user input devices, loading a cassette containing a plurality of glass articles into a molten salt bath of one or more ion exchange stations automatically with a robotic lift based on the processing instructions, removing the cassette from the molten salt bath automatically with the robotic lift after a predetermined time based on the processing instructions, and rotating the cassette automatically to drain fluid of the molten salt bath from the cassette.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 28, 2017
Date of Patent: May 25, 2021
    Assignee: CORNING INCORPORATED
Inventors: Michael David Harris, Timothy Leonard Hunt, Kevin Robert Kaelin, William James Miller, Patrick Aaron Parks, Jeanne Lynn Swecker, Christopher Lee Timmons

  • Patent number: 9435953
Abstract: A method of forming an optical communication cable is provided. The cable includes a core element located in a cable jacket. The core element includes a buffer tube having an outer surface, an inner surface and a channel defined by the inner surface of the first tube. The core element includes an optical fiber located within the channel of the buffer tube and a color layer formed from a surface-deposited colorant material applied to the outer surface of the buffer tube.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 18, 2014
Date of Patent: September 6, 2016
    Assignee: CORNING OPTICAL COMMUNICATIONS LLC
Inventors: Adra Smith Baca, Dana Craig Bookbinder, Timothy Leonard Hunt, Michael Anthony Lockee, Eric John Mozdy
  • Patent number: 9108876
Abstract: Manufacturing an optical fiber by using an outside vapor deposition technique for making a substrate, applying one or more layers to the substrate using a radial pressing technique to form a soot blank, sintering the soot blank in the presence of a gaseous refractive index-modifying dopant, and drawing the sintered soot blank, provides a more efficient and cost effective process for generating complex refractive index profiles.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 27, 2012
Date of Patent: August 18, 2015
    Assignee: Corning Incorporated
Inventors: Steven Bruce Dawes, Dominick Fiordimalva, Timothy Leonard Hunt, Douglas Hull Jennings
