  • Patent number: 5470046
Abstract: A resilient seat gate valve is provided with a housing having an opening for receiving the operating stem for the valve and a cover with a seal for the cover to the housing opening comprising a step peripheral surface and an angled surface located interiorly of the valve housing opening; the cover is provided with a locking mechanism for drawing the opening peripheral surface against the angled surface of the housing lip to compress the seal carried by the peripheral surface of the cover and to effect the attachment of the cover in place without bolts or screws; the valve disc is provided with side edges covered by an elastomer and protected with a fully enclosing, replaceable cap to prolong the life of the valve disc by protecting the elastomer coating from abrasion; a dumbbell dirt and fluid pressure seal O-ring arrangement is provided between the cover and lip of the housing to facilitate insertion and positioning of the seal during installation of the cover.

  • Patent number: 5220942
Abstract: An indicator post for indicating an open or closed condition of a valve in a piping system has a post which has a rotatable operating nut at the top of a post head. The post head is attached on its lower end to an upper barrel having a telescoping lower barrel within it. The operating nut is also attached to a solid upper stem. A hollow lower stem surrounds the lower end of the solid stem and has a lower end attached to a valve assembly socket for mating with a valve stem. The hollow stem is freely slidable along a large portion of the solid stem so that the assembly may accommodate a large range of valve stem-to-operating nut distances. The operating nut carries a threaded sleeve which is preferably constructed of molded, engineering-grade plastic.

  • Patent number: 5020934
Abstract: A corrosion resistant valve stem coupling for use in selected fire hydrants whose water valves are frequently opened and closed. The valve stem coupling is coated with a compressible, non-oxidizable, corrosion protection coating which does not oxidize and is not worn off in situations of repeated use. In one embodiment, the compressible coating is a nylon coating applied to the valve stem coupling with a fluid-bed, powder coating method.

  • Patent number: 4964613
Abstract: In a gate valve, the valve member is connected to an operating stem which extends upwardly through an opening in the housing for connection to a hand wheel rotatably carried by a yoke through which a portion of the stem extends; rotation of the hand wheel is transferred to linear motion of the valve stem through a split pair of threaded nut members the upper one of which is rotatably engaged with the hand wheel and the lower one of which is rotatably carried in a bore of the support yoke through which a threaded portion of the stem extends; the upper and lower nut members are intergaged to prevent relative rotation therebetween and are of identical configuration.

  • Patent number: 4848730
Abstract: A valve body having an opening and a cover for closing the opening is provided with confronting sealing surfaces each having a circumferential recess of a specific shape to receive an elastic sealing ring; the sealing ring is provided with a tab which projects externally of the valve when assembled to indicate to proper positioning of the seal ring upon assembly; a process for manufacturing mold parts using a lost foam method includes replicating a valve part in styrene, forming a sand mold about the styrene and then pouring molten metal into the mold to destroy the styrene and fill the mold cavity thus formed.

  • Patent number: 4842246
Abstract: An improved compression type valve for a fire hydrant or the like includes an improved resilient valve member for sealingly engaging a seating ring in order to control the passage of fluid through the valve. The improved valve member is provided with a first bevel extending from a side surface thereof toward the top surface of the valve member, and with a second bevel which extends from the first bevel to the top surface. The second bevel prevents pressure which is applied to the valve element from causing the top surface of the valve element to deform around its circumference and break off, as was the case with prior art valve members of this type.

  • Patent number: 4778152
Abstract: A plug valve includes a body having an interior wall and fluid passages therethrough with the interior wall having raised ridge portions thereon located in a selected pattern for cooperation with a resilient sealing cover which is molded on a plug body so that when a selected plug body having the cover is inserted into the body the raised surfaces will engage and compress the resilient material to prevent fluid leakage therebetween; the plug member has a fluid passage which, upon rotation of the plug member in the body will be brought into and out of alignment with the fluid passages in the body; the body may have a plurality of fluid pathways which are selectable by selecting a plug member having a selected pathway for providing registry between a desired path of fluid travel.
