Patent number: 11100930Abstract: A method for wake word detection during a communication session includes receiving a local audio signal from a microphone of a local communication device, the microphone capturing sound from a local environment of a local communication device, and receiving a far-end audio signal from a far-end communication device on a far-end of the communication session, the far-end communication device connected to the local communication device during the communication session. A first occurrence of a wake sound in the local audio signal is detected, and responsive to detecting the first occurrence of the wake sound in the local audio signal and determining that the far-end audio signal does not contain a second occurrence of the wake sound within a threshold period of time from the first occurrence, activation signal is transmitted to a controller. The activation signal causes a processor associated with the communication device to perform an operation.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2019Date of Patent: August 24, 2021Assignee: Facebook, Inc.Inventors: Marc Ihaab Salem, Timothy M. Patent number: 9949210Abstract: A system and method for managing mobile communications device connectivity and communication behavior monitor device location relative to known communication-mode coverage areas and cause or suggest changes in device connectivity or behavior based on a power-drain map to preserve device battery power. The power-drain map provides, in an embodiment, a pairing of locations, available communication modes, and expected power drains when a given device employs each available communication mode. In general, behavioral modifications include preemptive or delayed downloading as well as switching networks or network types among other types of behavior.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2017Date of Patent: April 17, 2018Assignee: Google Technology Holdings LLCInventors: Gregory R. Black, Timothy M. McCune

Publication number: 20090111528Abstract: A mobile telephone is operable to alert a user of the mobile telephone to the presence of an active wireless audio interface during a telephone call. The telephone comprises a local audio interface, having a loudspeaker and microphone, a user activity detector operable to detect user interaction with the telephone if a wireless audio interface is active, and a processor, operable to cause an audible signal to be generated by the loudspeaker of the local audio interface if a wireless audio interface is active and user activity is detected by the user activity detector. User interaction with the telephone is monitored and an audible message is played through the local audio interface of the mobile telephone if user interaction with the mobile telephone is detected and a wireless audio interface is active. The audible message alerts the user to the presence of the active wireless audio interface.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 30, 2007Publication date: April 30, 2009Applicant: MOTOROLA, INC.Inventors: Igor Kovalenko, Timothy M. Patent number: 7184794Abstract: A highly versatile interface that is capable of digital and audio signal coupling is provided. The interface comprises contacts (122, 124, 216, 218) that are used to couple both audio and digital signals, and separate contacts (126, 220) that are used initiate and negotiate signaling mode transitions. Transitions can be effected without creating glitches, e.g., audible noise, in audio signals that are being coupled through the interface.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2004Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: David M. Hess, Mark J. Carlson, Timothy M. McCune

Patent number: 7154468Abstract: A display apparatus 200, a display controller 222, and a method for optimizing a displayed image for use in an electronic device 100 comprising a display 208 for presenting a visual image, a processor 212 for determining the intensity of a backlight 216 used for illuminating the display 208 and a controller 202 that optimizes the visual image corresponding to the intensity of the backlight 216 are described. As the intensity of the backlight 216 is reduced, the brightness of the pixels 210 is increased to compensate the image when, for example, the backlight intensity is reduced to save power. The method and apparatus are also described for compensating for uneven backlight 216 conditions.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2003Date of Patent: December 26, 2006Assignee: Motorola Inc.Inventors: Daniel A.
