  • Patent number: 10993668
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for sampling internal substance(s) in the gastrointestinal tract of an animal composed of at least one wall which is partially expandable. The invention also relates to a method of orally administering the device to an animal and recovering the device from the stool to carry out analysis on the collected sample for diagnosing the health of the gastrointestinal tract and determining nutrient absorption and digestibility.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 14, 2014
Date of Patent: May 4, 2021
    Assignee: Mars, Incorporated
Inventors: David Wrigglesworth, Timothy McKnight, Milton Nance Ericson

  • Publication number: 20080113155
Abstract: Methods, manufactures, machines and compositions are described for nanotransfer and nanoreplication using deterministically grown sacrificial nanotemplates. An apparatus, includes a substrate and a nanoconduit material coupled to a surface of the substrate. The substrate defines an aperture and the nanoconduit material defines a nanoconduit that is i) contiguous with the aperture and ii) aligned substantially non-parallel to a plane defined by the surface of the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20060292013
Abstract: A microfluidic magnetocaloric pump. The magnetic and thermal properties of a ferrofluid such as MnZnFe2O4 nanoparticles in an oil- or water-based medium are allowed to interact with a magnetic field that is partially coincident with a thermal gradient. As the ferrofluid heats, it loses its attraction to the magnetic field and is displaced by cooler fluid. The micropump produces fluid propulsion with no moving mechanical parts while requiring only 35 mW power and operation at a temperature of only 40-80° C.

  • Publication number: 20060076867
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for individually electrically addressable carbon nanofibers on insulating substrates. A method includes forming an electrically conductive interconnect on at least a part of an insulating surface on a substrate; and growing at least one fiber that is coupled to the electrically conductive interconnect.

  • Publication number: 20060068127
Abstract: Methods, manufactures, machines and compositions are described for nanotransfer and nanoreplication using deterministically grown sacrificial nanotemplates. A method includes depositing a catalyst particle on a surface of a substrate to define a deterministically located position; growing an aligned elongated nanostructure on the substrate, an end of the aligned elongated nanostructure coupled to the substrate at the deterministically located position; coating the aligned elongated nanostructure with a conduit material; removing a portion of the conduit material to expose the catalyst particle; removing the catalyst particle; and removing the elongated nanostructure to define a nanoconduit.
