  • Patent number: 11268616
Abstract: An envelope gasket features a bonded construction. In one example, a virgin PTFE envelope is bonded to a pair of microcellular or expanded PTFE filler material annular rings. The PTFE filler annular rings are then bonded together around a corrugated metal insert ring (on the inner and outer diameter), thus sealing inside microcellular or expanded PTFE. Alternatively, when using expanded graphite filler material annular rings, the PTFE envelope is bonded to the expanded graphite filler rings by pressure and heat, and the filler rings are bonded to each other by pressure during the bonding process.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 1, 2018
Date of Patent: March 8, 2022
    Assignee: Virginia Sealing Products, Inc.

  • Publication number: 20150115548
Abstract: A composite gasket is formed of soft outer facing layers with a harder tanged material sandwiched in between. The soft outer layers allow the gasket to conform to flange irregularities, while also sealing at low bolt loads. The hard core tangs spear into the body of the facing layers during compression thereby allowing the harder tanged core to securely grip into the soft outer facings and provide a durable core throughout the entire body of the gasket.

  • Publication number: 20050176327
Abstract: A moldable heat shield with a needled nonwoven core layer and needled nonwoven shell layers. The core layer has a blend polyester staple fibers and low melt polyester staple fibers. The shell layers have a blend of staple fibers of partially oxidized polyacrylonitrile, and staple fibers of polyester, and staple fibers of a low melt polyester. The layers are needled together such that fibers from the core layer do not reach the outer surfaces of the shell layers. The shell layers are calendared such that an outer surface layer is formed thereon, which provides the moldable heat shield with a water and oil resistant surface.
