Abstract: The present invention relates to cementing operations, and more particularly, to cement slurry compositions demonstrating improved long-term slurry-state stability, and methods of using such compositions in subterranean applications. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method of cementing in a subterranean formation, comprising the steps of: providing a cement composition comprising water, a cement, a set retarder, and a gelation prevention agent, the gelation prevention agent comprising a salt and a calcium sequestering agent; permitting the cement composition to remain in a slurry state for at least twenty-four hours; activating the cement composition at a desired time; placing the cement composition in a subterranean formation; and permitting the cement composition to set therein.
