  • Patent number: 11142172
Abstract: A brake pedal portion is configured to be contacted by a driver; an arm portion is connected to the brake portion and is configured to, in response to force being applied to the brake pedal portion, move in a first direction away from a first predetermined position and toward a second predetermined position; a detent mechanism is configured to: apply a first biasing force to the arm portion in a second direction that is opposite to the first direction when a position of the arm portion is between the first predetermined position and a third predetermined position between the first and second predetermined positions; and apply a second biasing force to the arm portion in the second direction opposite to the first direction when the position of the arm portion is between the third and second predetermined positions, where the first biasing force is different than the second biasing force.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 6, 2019
Date of Patent: October 12, 2021
Assignee: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLC

  • Patent number: 9347388
Abstract: A system includes a stop-start module that determines, based on characteristics of a vehicle, whether to deactivate an engine of the vehicle, that selectively deactivates the engine based on the characteristics, that, subsequent to deactivating the engine, selectively reactivates the engine based on the characteristics, and that generates an indication signal corresponding to the determination. A driver alert module receives the indication signal and selectively generates, based on the indication signal, a masking sound to be played by an audio system of the vehicle while the engine is deactivated.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 21, 2014
Date of Patent: May 24, 2016

Inventors: Timothy R. Bohn, Frank C. Valeri, Scott M. Reilly
  • Patent number: 9218801
Abstract: A method of controlling sounds associated with a vehicle is provided. The method includes performing on a processor, monitoring powertrain data; determining a powertrain transition event based on the powertrain data; and selectively controlling the generation of one or more tones based on the powertrain transition event.
