  • Patent number: 8429424
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a method and system for encrypting files based on security rules. In accordance with a particular embodiment of the present disclosure, a request to store a file on a storage device is received. At least one security parameter associated with a security profile of the file is identified. It is determined whether to encrypt the file by applying at least one security rule to the security parameter. The security rule includes selection criteria. The file is encrypted if the security rule indicates the file should be encrypted. The file is stored on the storage device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 20, 2007
Date of Patent: April 23, 2013
    Assignee: CA, Inc.
Inventors: Russell A. Witt, Osvaldo A. Ridner, John M. Casey, Timothy R. Bruce, David L. Helsley, Gary Gregory
  • Patent number: 7886161
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and system for intercepting transactions for encryption. In accordance with a particular embodiment of the present invention, an application for a storage device is monitored. A transaction for the storage device is intercepted. An encryption request within the transaction is identified. Performance of the transaction is emulated by performing the encryption request in a predetermined exit point of the application.

Date of Patent: February 8, 2011
    Assignee: Computer Associates Think, Inc.
Inventors: Russell A. Witt, Timothy R. Bruce, David L. Helsey, Osvaldo A. Ridner, John M. Casey
  • Patent number: 7818586
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for encrypting data, generating encryption keys, and generating encryption indicators. The encryption indicators may be stored on a storage medium in a location separate from the location of stored encrypted data. The encryption indicator includes information indicative of the encryption key used for encrypting and decrypting the data. In one example, the storage medium is a tape, and the encryption indicator is stored in the user header label of the tape.

  • Patent number: 7694134
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for encrypting data without regard to applications writing the data to, or reading the data from, encrypted data storage devices. An operating system intercept detects information indicating that a file will be encrypted and, in respond, sets device-level flags indicating encryption and also establishes one or more encryption keys to be used in the encryption process. A second intercept detects an input/output event and, in response, calls an encryption application to encrypt (or decrypt) the data before it is written to (or read from) the data storage device.

  • Patent number: 7117229
Abstract: A system and method for online reorganization of an existing database that occurs while read and update activity of the existing database continues. The system and method comprise unloading the existing database, reloading the existing database directly to a shadow database, building shadow database indexes, creating a first intermediary image copy of the existing database, analyzing the existing database, capturing updates for the existing database, applying the captured updates to the shadow database, taking the existing database offline, finalizing the shadow database with any remaining updates, creating a final image copy, comparing the existing database and the finalized shadow database, and placing the finalized shadow database online.
