  • Patent number: 6196332
Abstract: A rotational energy storage device or spring which includes a roller-cam assembly having a shaft, a ring rotatably disposed about the shaft, and at least one roller disposed between shaft and ring. The roller is configured such that, upon rotating the ring relative to the shaft, the roller interferes with the ring and the shaft to convert and effect storage of mechanical energy created by the relative rotation of the ring and the shaft. Preferably a plurality of spaced rollers are positioned between ring and shaft. A cam geometry which is symmetrical or asymmetrical is provided on the shaft, the ring, the roller, and combinations thereof. A rotational energy storage device having a back-up ring with alternating thin and thick cross-sectional areas is further provided which is indexed to provide regions of low and high stiffness regions against each roller.

  • Patent number: 5906244
Abstract: The invention is an improved rotary impact tool that uses a motor driven mechanism well known in the art as the Maurer mechanism comprising a hammer anvil frame and pins to cause impact loads applied through a rotary output shaft. The improvement is an improved striking surface geometry formed on the impact delivering jaw surface forming an involute profile generated from a base circle having an axis that is parallel to the axis of rotation of the output shaft.

  • Patent number: 5848655
Abstract: Disclosed is a low reaction oscillating mass-based torquing tool wherein an oscillating mass is excited into near resonant oscillation by reversing pulses resulting in increased energy stored in oscillation about a dual stiffness spring which develops a higher torque output with the stiffer spring action in the tightening direction and hence tightens the fastener.

  • Patent number: 5845718
Abstract: Disclosed is a low reaction oscillating mass-based torquing tool wherein an oscillating mass is excited into near resonant oscillation by reversing pulses resulting in increased oscillation about a torsion spring to the point where the torque associated with the energy stored in the torsion spring exceeds the torque required to further tighten a fastener and the torque released from the torsion spring tightens the fastener while a biasing torque assures application of the released torque in the tightening direction only.

  • Patent number: 5769174
Abstract: Disclosed is a vibration isolator which is comprised of parallel flexible beams of rectangular cross sections connected between parallel mounting plates to permit parallel translation of the mounting plates in substantially one parallel direction only thereby permitting the vibration absorber to absorb relative induced motion or vibration in one preferred direction only while retaining relative stiffness for control in the remaining two coordinate directions as well as restraining torsional twist.

  • Patent number: 5376057
Abstract: A gear set is provided having a plurality of two-stage intermediate gears which do not require indexing on assembly or reassembly of the gear train. This is provided by aligning the two-stage gear teeth in axial alignment tooth for tooth between the stage while maintaining an appropriate number of teeth on the input and output gears.
