  • Patent number: 10888292
Abstract: A curved compression element, such as a breast compression paddle, and imaging systems and methods for use with curved compression elements. A system may include a radiation source, a detector, and a curved compression element. Operations are performed that include receiving image data from the detector; accessing a correction map for the at least one compression paddle; correcting the image data based on the correction map to generate a corrected image data; and generating an image of the breast based on the corrected image data. The breast compression element generally has no sharp edges, but rather has smooth edges and transitions between surfaces. The breast compression paddle also includes a flexible material that spans a portion of a curved bottom surface of the breast compression paddle to define a gap. The flexible material may be a thin-film material such as a shrink wrap.

  • Publication number: 20200359975
Abstract: The front wall of an imaging system breast compression paddle is adjacent to and faces a patients chest wall during imaging. The front wall has a reference surface adjacent to the chest wall. The bottom wall which is connected to a curved lower interface extends away, from the chest wall and is adjacent to the top of a compressed breast. Two outer edges which extend away from the front reference surface, partially define a slightly raised central portion of the bottom wall. A bottom reference plane, a vertical reference plane substantially orthogonal to the front reference surface and the bottom reference plane, and an access surface disposed proximate at least one of the two outer edge portions are each defined by the bottom wall. The access surface is non-orthogonal to the front reference surface, the bottom reference plane, and the vertical reference plane.

Abstract: A breast securement device for an imaging system is provided. The securement device includes a retainer configured to attach to at least a portion of a patient's breast and a tensioning system coupled to the retainer. The tensioning system is configured to pull the retainer away from a chest wall of the patient so as to apply a pulling force to the patient's breast. The retainer may include a substantially tubular-shaped mesh material having a first end configured to receive at least a portion of the patient's breast and an opposite second end coupled to the tensioning system. In another example, the retainer may include a vacuum bag having a first end configured to receive at least a portion of the patient's breast. In still another example, the retainer may include an adhesive member configured to adhere to the patient's breast.

  • Publication number: 20180125437
Abstract: An x-ray breast imaging system comprising a compression paddle in which the compression paddle comprises a front wall and a bottom wall. The front wall is configured to be adjacent and face a chest wall of a patient during imaging and the bottom wall configured to be adjacent a length of a top of a compressed breast. The bottom wall extends away from the patient's chest wall, wherein the bottom wall comprises a first portion and a second portion such that the second portion is between the front wall and the first portion. The first portion is generally non-coplanar to the second portion, wherein the compression paddle is movable along a craniocaudal axis. • Publication number: 20150313674
Abstract: A breast biopsy lateral arm system includes a removable gun mount which attaches to a carriage that traverses along an X-axis defined by a lateral arm in order to position a biopsy needle relative to a patient. The carriage rides along the lateral arm on self-adjusting rollers which are loaded against the lateral arm by spring members. A cam-actuated carriage slide lock can be used to secure the carriage in a desired position relative to the lateral arm. A cam-actuated removable gun mount lock allows the gun mount to be quickly changed and offset orthogonally with respect to the X-axis. An X-axis stop can be used to establish a position to which the carriage can be returned with accuracy.
