  • Publication number: 20170109586
Abstract: A computer-based method includes classifying motion in a video file using a classifier to produce a confidence score for the video file that indicates how confident the classifier is that motion in the video file is a particular type of motion (e.g., motion by a living being). The method further includes enabling a first human user to specify (e.g., with a slider-style graphical control element), from a first user computing device, a first threshold confidence score for receiving notifications about videos. The method further includes sending a first notification of the uploaded video file if the confidence score for the video file meets or exceeds the user-specified first threshold confidence score for receiving notifications about videos. The first notification, if sent, is accessible at least from the first user computing device.

  • Patent number: 9576466
Abstract: A method includes receiving an indication that an event has occurred in a physical space being monitored by a monitoring device that includes a plurality of sensors. In response to the indication, the method includes sending one or more primary notifications of the event over a computer-based network to each of one or more persons primarily associated with the physical space being monitored. If, after a designated amount of time, none of the primary notifications have been viewed by any of the persons primarily associated with the physical space being monitored, the method includes sending a backup notification of the event over the computer-based network to one or more persons designated as backup contacts. The backup notification is logically associated with information that the one or more backup contacts can access about the event. The logical association can be embodied by a link (e.g., a hyperlink) in the backup notification.

  • Publication number: 20160125714
Abstract: An apparatus includes: a video camera configured to acquire a video of a monitored physical space, a computer-based memory buffer configured to store temporarily a portion of the video acquired by the video camera as it is acquired, and an actuator configured such that operation of the actuator causes, for a period of time, any video subsequently acquired by the video camera to be saved to a computer-based memory device other than the computer-based memory buffer.

  • Publication number: 20160125318
Abstract: A method includes: collecting data about a first event at a first physical space using a first electronic monitoring device that is physically located at the first physical space, enabling the collected data to be displayed at a computer-based user interface device (e.g., at a user's a smartphone that may be remotely located relative to the first electronic monitoring device), enabling the user to describe, using the computer-based user interface device, the first event represented by the collected data, and storing, in a computer-based memory, a logical association between the user's description of the first event and one or more characteristics of the collected data.
